Beluga whale teases kids in aquarium

Playful Beluga Whale Teases Kids

A trip to the aquarium is usually a chance for children to watch sea animals go about their own business, oblivious to outside observers. In this video, a beluga whale turns the tables as it teases two startled kids, pressing its mouth against the glass panel dividing them.

Watch their brilliant reaction as the mischievous mammal then turns his back on the pair, pretending to have forgotten about them, only to turn around and startle them again and again.

The videographer and a friend, who had met in an online support group for a childrens' rare genetic disorder called FOD, went to the aquarium so the kids could meet someone else with the same disorder.

After they tried to share the cute video with the aquarium, they got no response, so they uploaded it themselves and Juno the whale really caught on.
we never tried to get a response in any way shape or form from the whales. they did this on their own. the video is actually the second or third time the whale juno teased our kids!
we submitted the video to the aquarium with no response last year. suddenly, it started being reshared on my 40th bday a week and a half ago. then another and another.

That poor whale tortured in a tank too small and too shallow for their species is not "teasing" those children. We need to rethink how we treat animals for our own entertainment.

I don't think this video is one bit funny. The whale probably saw them as a threat, especially to to the whale's privacy. Wild life that is stuck in a big tank should at least be treated with respect.

Poor animals, they should be free and not displayed for ignorant people who have no value.

These animals might have been brought there for rehabilitation, their own protection, or a number of very valid reasons. Not only that but if not for places like this and zoos, we may not love these animals nearly as much as we do or even be aware of their existence. It's not like everyone can view them in the wild. And who said all aquarium animals are in danger for being in an aquarium?

Beluga Whales are prized and hunted for their very good and very expensive caviar. Without help and protection, these beautiful mammals would not survive long in the wild.

LOL- beluga caviar comes from a fish- the beluga sturgeon. Beluga whales are mammals- which don't lay fish eggs- or any eggs for that matter.

I would just like to say that this is not "cute" or "funny" I am sure that the whale sees itself it the glass, this is a common thing in animals who are in captivity and is one of the main cause in injury, and it is almost disturbing that people are finding it funny, I understand that kids don't understand and most people won't but people should know that this is not something that should be "entertaining"

The whale is showing the greatest frustration and sadness. Please - whales are NOT made for confinement. This is animal abuse at the highest level. And we laugh and make fun of them. How barbaric of us!!!!!

Really? Did the whale tell you that? Don't pretend to be an expert. That's not to say there's not abuse among aquariums and other animal exhibits, but not all of them are harming the animals. Some are sent back to the wild while others simply cannot go back and survive.

Whales are highly intelligent so I'm not surprised to see this one interact with the children in such a playful manner. Not only that but did you know that aquariums help keep many of these aquatic animals from becoming extinct due to pollution and poaching?

Somehow that makes imprisoning them and allowing kids to tease them at a window okay?

I found it entertaining and the aquarium should have at least responded. To the others who complained, maybe you should go watch your Miley Cyrus video or reality shows.

The aquarium probably gets countless videos of how the animals interact with visitors.

They are far more beautiful in the ocean where the BELONG!. Stop building aquariums to imprison more of our beautiful sea mammals. Stop allowing their capture and exploitation for entertainment.

If not for aquariums and breeding programs, Beluga Whales would be extinct in no time. They are hunted for their Caviar which is very expensive.

Hopefully those little kids took away from this experience that whales should not be kept in aquarium tanks. Don't take whales or other species out of the wild and lock them up .... or at the very least, trade them out for others every six months. Compromise people. Somebody do something.
