Amazing time-lapse shows six months in a flash

In the midst of turmoil, NASA's latest image might just help put everything into perspective.

Six months on Earth pass in a mesmerizing six seconds in the new composite time-lapse video put together by NASA's Earth Observatory.

As NASA explained, the image of the eastern hemisphere was assembled from shots taken from eight orbits of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite, which were then "stitched together" to create a smooth seamless image.

The looped GIF version is hypnotizing.

"After having the privilege of flying shuttle missions and seeing Earth from the vantage point of space, I'll never forget observing our fragile planet from above with no visible political borders, only those established by the oceans and mountains and other geography," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden wrote, according to NASA. "It's a reminder that our planet belongs to everyone, and we each have a responsibility to help protect it. For NASA, that means making Earth science a priority investment. It's one of the cornerstones of our work."
