Patrick Swayze: 15 things you didn't know

By Eric Sandler

On August 18th, 1952 Patrick Swayze was born in Houston, Texas. Upon his untimely death in 2009 due to an advanced form of pancreatic cancer, the New York Times remembered him as an "actor with physical grace." His "Dirty Dancing" co-star Jennifer Grey called him a "rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace." Others remembered his iconic roles ("Ghost," "Dirty Dancing," "The Outsiders," "Red Dawn," etc.), his emotional side, his good-natured personality, or his downright sexiness. To us, he'll always simply be among the best.

In honor of his birthday, scroll through above as we count down 15 stories, fun facts, and memories you didn't know about Patrick Swayze.

I rarely say this about a man, but, this dude was good-looking! Also, he appeared to be a genuine nice person!

Patrick and Demi were perfect for Ghost...both in their prime and very well matched.

"North and South" was when he first caught my eye, and since I'm from TN, I loved it that he was on the Sourthern side.

Me neither, but the headliner on this article says that someone else was considered. I never read in any of these video's who that was.

The article says you've never heard of his brother Don.
I've not only heard of him but I've seen his work.
The man is a terrific actor.

I think the Aol/Hp writers are the worst out there. Typos, misleading headlines and void of actual factual content.

Don Swayze? I'll have to look that up. I guess it runs in the family-- there is no doubt that Pat was enormously talented. Did his brother dance, too? That would be a bit much to ask, laugh-- how many ballet dancers can there be in a single generation?

One of the most handsome actors after Clark Gable!

Yep, smile-- a true heartthrob. I was already much older than Pat and Jennifer when I saw Dirty Dancing for the first time, but I will definitely admit to sighing over him, laugh. Whew!

What, exactly, is "pysical" grace? Again, the crack reporting team at HuffnPuff post forgets that spell check is simple and easy to use.

Did he really? I must have missed that one, or simply didn't recognize him. I loved M*A*S*H, and saw it as often as I could. I'll look it up. Thanks!
