US launches airstrikes near Irbil and Mosul Dam

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials say a mix of fighter planes and remotely piloted aircraft have attacked Islamic State militants near the Iraqi city of Irbil and the Mosul Dam.

In a statement, U.S. Central Command said the airstrikes Saturday were launched under the authority to support humanitarian efforts in Iraq, as well as to protect U.S. personnel and facilities.

Central Command says the nine airstrikes conducted so far had destroyed or damaged four armored personnel carriers, seven armed vehicles, two Humvees and an armored vehicle.

The Islamic State group captured Mosul Dam, in northern Iraq on the Tigris River, earlier this month. It is the nation's largest dam.

We're talking about taking out individual weapons and vehicles of against a terrorist organization that captures territory and beheads children. Forget vehicles and weapons. We should be taking out entire convoys, bases, and command and control centers.

We are just going to have to keep the pressure on these Islamic Extremists. If at the end of a gun barrell is the only thing they understand, then so be it.

Actually, that's an A-6 Intruder, which was retired by the Navy in 1997. So I doubt that that's the USS H.W. Bush! Great work again, Top notch journalism.

Despite what its' caption says, the picture is obviously not an F-18. Makes one wonder how much of the text is also bogus and/or unreserched?

with the kind of firepower at the Air Force's disposal-if we were serious , Isis forces would be decimated by now. Fight to lose-that is our motto.
