Michael J. Fox Reacts To Robin Williams Parkinson's Bombshell

Veteran actor Michael J Fox says he's stunned over the news that the late Robin Williams was dealing with the early stages of Parkinson's when he committed suicide.

After news broke that legendary comedian Robin Williams took his own life this week, his wife, Susan Schneider, released a statement revealing the her husband was struggling with Parkinson's.

On August 11, Williams was found unresponsive by an assistant in his home in Northern California. According to authorities the comedian hanged himself with a belt in his bedroom. Reps for Williams say the late actor was suffering from depression.

In response to the statement made by Susan Schneider actor Michael J Fox took to twitter.

'Stunned to learn Robin had PD. Pretty sure his support for our Fdn predated his diagnosis. A true friend; I wish him peace.'

Michael J Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 and lived with the illness in secret until he publicly revealed his diagnosis in 1998. He too a break from acting in 2000 after his symptoms worsened. That same year he created The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research which is the largest not for profit funder of Parkinson's drug development in the world -- so far granting $450 million for research.

It's amazing that we get wall to wall coverage day in and day out about Williams because he was depressed and committed suicide.
Barely a mention of the death of the classy lady Laren Becall because she died a natural cause in ripe old age.
Best example of how media is just going for sensationalism.

Lauren Becall has been out of the news for many decades, even with yourself, you spelled her name wrong.

mvnup -- It is appropriate to view this as a tragedy because it is. It even fits the definition of tragedy.

What is irksome is people failing to contemplate the singular issue, albeit complicated, and respond maturely and responsibly to that.

Instead some attempt to co-opt the issue with one of their own. Regardless of the merits of this additional issue, it is peripheral to the main, and therefore inappropriate.

That it is becoming increasingly common doesn't mean it is acceptable.

This is not the forum for discussing abortion, gun control, illegal immigration, Obamacare, global warming, the Ukraine crisis, ISIL and ISIS, congested freeways, the high cost of cable, camera drones over celebrity weddings. . .

Respect Robin Williams. Be real and present about how someone's suicide affects you. I am saddened by his pain and his decision. I won't judge--not my job.

Instead of looking at this as a tragedy did anyone realize this is what he wanted, this is what he chose. Some say abortion is up to the woman because it is her body however the baby is a life that can not make choices yet. A person who chooses to take their own life has the right to do so an unborn child has no choice that is tragic.

Michael J Fox is a HERO ...

Robin Williams is just yet another Hollywood tragedy who suffered from drug/alcohol/depression and decided to END IT ALL by KILLING HIMSELF rather than "toughing" the bumps in the road ... which is called LIFE

fade to dark ...
roll credits ......

I'm still a sceptic, until his doctor is allowed to come forward and confirm this I will stay doubtful. But mvnup is right a person has a right to end their life anytime they want to. That said I still miss robin who was a bay area boy thru and thru. And I know in my heart he is with God.

How many people have taken their own lives or taken risks which cost them their lives in the mistaken notion that they will somehow be reborn in the presence of some fictional God?
We're born, live and die and we're simply NOT THAT SPECIAL that we should think we're different or better than any other life form in he cosmos.
Quit believing you are.

For some reason his death has mad me sadder than any other celebrity of our time. Not sure why. I guess it is because I have always seen him as such an upbeat, amazing talent, and have watched him for so many years. Ever since he was on Mork and Mindy I knew there was something extremely special about him. It is so tragic that he must have felt there were no answers or help out there for him. My heart truly aches for his family and friends. A great man, a great talent.

Parkinson's nor any other diagnosis is not a reason to kill oneself. If Robin were taking anti-depressants (some of which have the tendency to provoke thoughts of suicide) it would be more understandable.

I couldn't agree more!!! What would make her think it would be okay to do that??? Not someone I would want to carry out my last wishes.

Probably will get a lot of hate responses, but it seems that PD is only a "bombshell", when a celebrity has it. What about the other many thousands that also are fighting this disease? Don't recall it being a bombshell when M Fox came out with it.
