Must-have swimsuit item of the season: The facekini

Updated

Originally designed to protect your face from the sun, the bizarre new 'facekini' trend has exploded over beaches in Qingdao, China.

In some cultures, a tanned face and body implies health and leisure. But in China, a tan implies being of a lower socioeconomic status.

The explosion of the facekini has both baffled and intrigued social media users, as pictures of facekini users pop up all over online.

The facekini reportedly costs between $2.40 and $4.00 USD.
