This astonishing video showing a Chihuahua being rescued by a Rottweiler from the mouth of a hungry coyote was posted in 2010 but only went viral in the past couple days.

According to the owner of the CCTV footage, Trixxie, the Chihuahua, was tied up outside when she was spotted by a hungry coyote. Only the intervention of the neighbor's Rottweiler, Happy, saved the life of the smaller dog.

According to the uploader, prior to this incident there were no coyote sightings reported in the area -- which is near a city with no prior history of attacks like this.

Even more unusually, it happened at 7am, which is not a normal time for a wild animal attack.

This footage picked up at least 1.2 million views in 48 hours.
