Who knew that demands for same-day grocery delivery would become a mini-catalyst for the job market? In the recent years, it has. This is due in large part to what Re/Code explains as simply, "People like to get stuff when they want it."

They couldn't be more right. These days, it's not hard to get a ride with Uber so you don't miss the in-home massage you scheduled on Zeel that should be arriving right around the time your Drizly beer delivery does. With the near constant improvements of everyday technology, startups are now able to actualize their service goals. This has not only benefitted the brand and its customers, employees are seeing positive results as well.It's not just technology making this possible. It's the entire business model. Instead of sinking into large startup debts by hiring full-time staff, purchasing vehicles and a warehouse, companies are using the resources around them. In the case of Re/Code's piece, Instacart provides one-hour-or-less delivery service based on the markets local to a shopper and the car of the driver. No branding goes onto the driver's personal belongings unless they elect to wear the optional work shirt.

Even without the branding, the service is helping spread the word across the country, with new cities wanting to get involved. By using this model, employees are averaging $15-$30 an hour at a growing number of employers. If you want to get into this field you should research average hourly incomes of employees, as not all startups are offering this type of wage opportunity.

More established startups like Uber are claiming to create 20,000 jobs a month across the U.S. While that is a comforting number to see, it is worth mentioning that these jobs are not full-time in most cases. But that doesn't seem to be an issue for most of the workforce.

For the most part, that is because a majority of the workers are part of America's growing 'non-traditional' workforce. The industry comprises adults from various educational backgrounds with goals as simple as wanting to avoid the traditional office lifestyle to those looking for enough cash to travel the world while pursuing their passion. These jobs are ideal to this workforce, as both sides seem to understand and value the need for flexible, fluid schedules.

These schedules allow for the employee to work multiple jobs during the day. For some, the idea of working various jobs within the same day can be daunting. For the employees of this growing industry, they appear to embrace the "drop in, drop out" workday. Instead of having continuous eight-hour workdays of one service, the employee can mix up their day between as many services they're able to provide. This allows them to grab work where the demand is. In theory, they can make as much or little as they want each day.

It appears that this type of work may become even more desirable as the years move on. With an estimated 42 million freelancers in America today, the demand for this type of work could outweigh the supply for some time. In 2010, Intuit estimated that 40% of the American workforce would be freelancing by 2020. If that comes to fruition, maybe these employees will go down as trailblazers in American work history. The idea isn't as farfetched as it may seem.

When looking at the instant gratification boom, it looks as if a new company sprouts out of the demand of customers using the latest cutting edge service startup. Or, as Instacart founder Apoorva Mehta said, "I had this problem of never having groceries in my fridge and never having the motivation and energy to go to the store." Whichever way it is happening, startups are launching across the U.S.

Sure, for some the idea of delivering goods to more affluent customers may not be ideal. Service industries can be tough to work in. The startup environment can be unstable and uncertain. The employee usually has to own their own vehicle and possibly rent a company authorized phone, as is the case with Uber (the phone used to come with the job). However, some companies are evolving into employee care as well. Many have begun to hire employees part-time to ease self-employment taxes. Others are providing medical expense coverage and liability insurance for employees. The industry is growing and evolving. It may not be instantaneous, but the industry is positioning for long-term profits and job opportunities.
