So heartbreaking. Marilyn Burns, a slasher film icon who played the heroine survivor in the cult classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has passed away at her home in Texas, according to reports.

Marilyn was found dead on Aug. 5 at her home in Houston, Texas, according to TMZ.

The world has truly lost one of the most beloved "scream queens" of all time.

"She was found unresponsive by a family member this morning in her Houston, TX area home. Her family asks for privacy at this time. Further details will be released later," Marilyn's representative confirmed to E! News.

Marilyn got her big break in Hollywood as Sally Hardesty in the 1974 cult classic movie. Her character heroically survives evil Leatherface's killing spree.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still one of the most iconic slasher movies ever. In the horror flick, five friends visiting their grandfather's old house are terrorized by a crazy killer with a chainsaw.

After starring in the 1974 flick, Marilyn made two cameos in future re-makes of the movie. Marilyn played a patient in 1994's Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and then made another cameo in 2013's Texas Chainsaw 3D.

According to Marilyn's IMDB page, the actress appeared in the horror movie Sacrament that was released in June 2014.

Marilyn was a true horror movie icon. Our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
