The New Jersey teen who sued her parents for refusing to support her after she left home now has a restraining order against the man her parents tried to stop her from seeing.

Rachel Canning's father Sean says her boyfriend, 18-year-old Lucas Kitzmiller, choked his daughter during an argument early Sunday morning.

Mr. Canning says Rachel was able to break free from his grasp and immediately drove to the police to file a domestic violence complaint. A temporary restraining order was issued.

Kitzmiller was a point of tension in the Canning household when the 18-year-old first made headlines in March. Rachel claimed she was kicked out of the home, but her parents argue she left on her own because she didn't want to follow house rules - which included no dating.

The teens are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a hearing on whether the restraining order will be made final. So far, Rachel has not filed criminal charges against him.
