Mexico says body found is that of missing US motorcyclist

Human Remains In Mexico Might Be From Missing Motorcyclist
ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) - Mexican authorities said Thursday that genetic testing had confirmed that human remains found near a Pacific Coast beach town were those of a New York man who vanished while riding his motorcycle to Brazil for the World Cup.

Jose Villanueva, spokesman for the government of Guerrero state, said tests identified the decomposed remains as those of Harry Devert, a 33-year-old stock trader from Pelham, New York.

Villanueva said state prosecutors had turned the case over to federal prosecutors. That might suggest organized crime played a role in his death, since such crimes are federal offenses.

Devert told a friend on Jan. 25 that he was leaving the state of Michoacan to head for Zihuatanejo on the coast. That path runs through an area troubled by drug-related violence.

The remains and a motorcycle that was the same model as Devert's were found in early July, about 16 miles (27 kilometers) from Zihuatanejo.

I feel for this young man's family. But, it amazes me the ignorance by this man. Everyone knows that Mexico is a violent country. Many states within Mexico are run by drug cartels. To think that you are going to travel without experience bad people wanting your money and bike is foolish. It also cost him his life.

An American traveling abroad alone in ANY country is a target. This was an ill-considered decision with tragic consequences.

That having been said, I find nothing even remotely attractive about traveling to Mexico. The government is corrupt, the military is corrupt, the police are corrupt. Mexican thugs have little or no fear of retribution from the United States, I have relatives in Arizona and New Mexico, and they have told me of Mexican gang members who come into the United States, and kidnap Americans from their homes, to be held for ransom.

The word is out in CA and has been for years. DO NOT drive in mexico. So many ended up fined, or dead or laying in jails because of corruption in that country. ITS a very dangerous and corrupt country.

For those wondering how thousands of people could travel across Mexico from their southern border and not be stopped by Mexican authorities, familiarize yourself with the word AZTLAN. The word is used in Mexico to describe the areas in the Southwest United States given to the U.S. in 1846 under the TREATY OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO. Mexican children are taught in school that those areas were stolen and will be taken back. That will be done by flooding the Southwest U.S. with Hispanics who will eventually take over the areas with their sheer numbers. Now, do you wonder why Mexico made no attempt to stop the thousands heading to the U.S. from Central and South America and they make no attempt to stop their own citizens from flooding into the U.S.. Those illegals taking residence in the U.S. send in excess of $23 billion dollars back to Mexico.

Yeah, well there are parts in the US....that you don't ride through alone....if you get my drift. Both you and your motorcycle will never be found.

Just another good reason to completely close the border...no one in and no one out...Mexico is to be off-limits! Plus no financial aid to Mexico...none! Until Mexico cleans up it's act...corruption...keep the border closed. It is up to the citizens of Mexico to solve their problems...not ours!
