'Skateboard cop' may be the first in the US

World's Coolest Cop Patrols on a Skateboard

A Green Bay police officer is taking to the streets to fight crime but on a different set of wheels: Meet the world's first skateboarding cop, Officer Joel Zwicky.

He started his skating patrols in March and has already become quite a fixture in his community and now throughout the world. The 10-year veteran says he's just thankful the police chief okayed the idea and got him out of his patrol car.

Skateboard cop also says the board allows him access to places he'd otherwise be unable to patrol.

He hopes other departments across the country will implement skateboards as a way to patrol, if, of course, their officers are "rad" enough!

I think this would give him a good chance to bond with the kids in the parks, which is a really good thing.

While it's fun, and some kids will like it (mostly younger ones), he'd have to be able to do a helluva lot more than just stay on it to bond with older skateboarders.

Yes, it is part of the job to "bond" with the community!! It's not all about being what people perceive to be the bad guy arresting and writing tickets. It's ridiculous to think an officer shouldn't interact with the citizens, make them feel more at ease around the police. WTG Joel!

I saw the red/blue lights on his skateboard. If he tried to pull me over, I'd have to LAUGH! How can anyone think this is actually effective? He needs to grow up.

Good to know if Marty McFly ever commits a crime on his Hoverboard, we now have someone to give chase.....

There would not be any more fat cops if they all had to use skate boards.

Can't concentrate on what's going on around you when you have to watch, balance, propel and control yourself and your board. A skateboard - so if he falls and breaks some bones or gets hit by a vehicle while riding his skateboard is a "line of Duty Injury" and if so is he eligible for a "disability" pension ? If he falls down he may have a problem retaining his weapon ? Any place he can "board" to he can WALK to!

When I was a security guard in parking garage I'd allow kids to skate down from 12th floor as long as they paid me back by staying out of trouble. They would take elevator all the way back up to floor 12.That's a good mile down.

Typical Huff/Post news breaking story. These reporters have once again found the most useless thing to write about. What a waste of print. Huff/Post has passed by miles the junk most rag mags put out

Really? We need cops on skateboards giving tickets and producing more revenue for the already greedy Towns and City Governments? This is the most ridiculous waste of taxpayers money I have ever heard of. "Halt! In the name of the Law! Do you know why I pulled you over? You were boarding in an unsafe manner at the half pipe (there's a safe way to do the half pipe?) and you were exceeding the limit of so many foot pushes on the pavement. Young man, you NEED a lesson and I am running (skating) you in for your crimes!!!!"

OMG you're an idiot!!!! Did you even bother to stop and think before you wrote this nonsense? More revenues?? You do realize, right, that skateboards don't require gasoline to operate? It's 1 skateboard. Do you even have enough brain to realize not all crimes/infractions are committed out on the paved streets? Do you even undertand the places one can travel to on a board? Can you even comprehend his commission is nearby? Wow, you win the dumbest thoughts award so far!
