Swastika advert causes outrage

Swastika Advert Causes Outrage

This is the plane that ruined many New York-area beachgoers' relaxing day on the coast. The advert featuring a swastika sign was seen flying over Brighton Beach and Coney Island Saturday, prompting several complaints.

The group behind the advert, an organization called Pro Swastika, reportedly flew it in dozens of major cities that day. The organization's founder told WNBC they're intentions were not to offend - they want to change the image back to its original meaning.

"In the western world the symbol has been hijacked by the Nazis. We're here to basically reclaim it from them. As long as there are people still offended by it, it means that we need to continue our work. We feel the need to continue to rehabilitate the symbol."

On its website, Pro Swastika explains the controversial word actually started out meaning "good luck" and "good will."

But here's the questionable ... or rather *more* questionable part: The advert is part of a campaign called Swastika Rehabilitation Week lead by a UFO group.

The groups leader told The Huffington Post the swastika was given to humans by a group of extraterrestrial scientists who created mankind.

And the only way to show them that humans have evolved enough to accept them is to rehabilitate the symbol.

This is the fifth year that the group has attempted to remove the Nazi stigma from the swastika, the campaign will hit 50 cities all over the world and lasts through July 12.

People need to grow up, and quit looking for things to complain about. This is still a free country and freedom of speech. Or maybe you could complain to Obama and he could take all your freedoms away and dictate what you can do the rest of your life. Get a life

BS. They know exactly what that symbol has come to mean. You can't undo the deaths of millions of Jews, by saying, "it means good will" BS.

irregardless of the previous comment, the Swastika, or Hakencruz, or flyflot cross, all three names, plus many others, was and is an ancient symbol of many civilizations over many thousands of years. from not only Sanskrit but also Asian, and Native American. We should "rehabilitate" it. That will be the final victory over Naziism, Hitler and his gang, little green men not withstanding:)

We whole-heartedly AGREE with the ad! SHEEPLE need to STOP and THINK. You people ARE giving the past nazi regime power and acknowledgment with the PAST SACRED symbol. SACRED.. symbol, INTERNATIONALLY. The swastika symbol NEED TO be raised BACK to its original HOME meaning. STOP keep "raping it"! PLEASE research the meaning of the symbol BEFORE you 'give in' to what the world's sicko made it to mean, for THEM. For US, Native Americans as well as other native peoples in the world, the swastika symbol has meant POSITIVE, for eternity! People NEED TO start change their view BACK to its original meaning and what it STANDS for. It is NOT nazi and it is NOT german!

How old are ewe? Who in your family died in WWII over that harmless emblem?? Yeah, didn't think so. If you have any WWii survivors who actually fought, (for the Allies and not those Broken Cross animals), ask them what they think.

Yes it is, for now, a free country. And, for now we still have freedom of speech. But hate is hate, and never mind offending people, I don't care about that, but common sense should still prevail. That symbol is nasty.

The "hate" is coming from those who want to cling to a brief period of horror from recent hisotry rather than denying the Nazis power from the mere sight of a symbol that they misused for a decade or so.

Nearly 50% of the Jews in the entire world were murdered during that "brief period". I KNOW people whose wrists are still tattooed with the number branded when they were just children that would have meant their deaths if they had been called, as it was for EVERY family member they had. These people chose to fly their message over a beach they probably go to- and that lots of other Jewish (and non-Jewish) people go to - in order to please extratarrestrials from outer space. You can try to make sense out of nonsense all you want, but whatever their excuse or belief, these people are crazy. What on earth is wrong with you that you would defend them?

And you knock the edges off, move the vertical line a little longer towards the top and bottom and you got what?

It may have started out as a goodwill symbol, but became the most offensive and disgusting symbol known to mankind!! These people need to get a life and put their energy into helping people, not offending, and hurting them. LET IT GO!!!!
The $$ they spent on this "advertising" could have been spent helping someone or something, (homeless animals) ,instead of bringing up angry and offensive feelings on a day when people were having a great day. Sick people who would do such a thing.

It's not that they are sick...they are just not thinking about all of those millions upon millions, upon millions of people, Jewish, Soviet, Slavic and other undesirables who died or were fortunate enough to survive the suffering under an evil madness that swept Germany under this symbol. Maybe one day it will be safe to show it and we won't entirely associate it with the Nazis and the Holocaust...but for now it's too soon and that group is a tad dumb to think other wise...

HEY MAMA CECILE July 14 2014 at 10:05 AM

Grow up? How do you "grow up" from grief? Perhaps you should table the intention to rehab the swastika symbol for another hundred years or so until all survivors and several generations of their offspring are gone and the memory of the pain and fear this horrible symbol produced has lessened. Now is NOT the time.

I get offended when I read comments by people referring to our President as Obozo and other disrespectful terms, just as I used to be offended when I watched the news showing Islamic extremists in other countries burning the American flag. Pardon me for being proud to be an American but even though I believe the voting process to be a sham (thus negating the idea of an actual Conservative vs Liberal agenda) I still support and respect my elders (as I was brought up right) and our great country's leaders whether they be Republican or Liberal. Thank God I'm not in power! I view disrespect of our President (regardless of party affiliation) as nothing short of sedition, but I will pray that the excesses of seditious crap spewed by know-it-all armchair warriors will backfire and bring about a repressive right-wing government that will send death squads to your houses to eliminate your entire genealogical line to insure that all future Americans keep their anti-American opinions to themselve

It is rather juvenile -- young kids find the corruption of names to be "smart".
