Nicole Scherzinger's breakup: 'I went to a very dark place'

Nicole Scherzinger In A

Sometimes we forget that celebrities are people too -- they go through the same issues and emotions as us peasants: Former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger is no exception when it comes to her breakup with Lewis Hamilton the songbird opened up to The Sun saying she 'went into a very dark place' after her split from the race car driver.

The couple dated for five years before breaking things off last July. "Everybody out there struggles with those issues at times -- loneliness and looking for love. I was trying to figure all that out," she told the paper.

The emotional breakup certainly wasn't one sided. In March a friend of Hamilton talked to the Mirror about the breakup. "During the time Lewis and Nicole spent apart, he was absolutely distraught and he said that if he ever got her back he would never let her go," the friend said.

This story does have a happy ending. Scherzinger and Hamilton are back together. The pair even sparked engagement rumors when Lewis posted a photo to Instagram and referred to the beauty as his 'wifey' in the caption.

Even though the couple seems to be heading toward happily ever after, Scherzinger revealed to The Sun that she still speaks regularly to a therapist to cleanse herself of her "demons."

Well, she is certainly in good company among Hollywood's elite. Leading ladies like Lena Dunham, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow have all spoken openly about their time in therapy.
