David's tragic story, romantic proposal on 'Extreme Weight Loss'

'Extreme Weight Loss': Tragic Story & A Romantic Proposal

On "Extreme Weight Loss," a man named David with a tragic past made the transformation of a Lifetime, and his story had a heartwarming ending.

The 30-year-old started at a weight of 413 pounds, approximately 225 pounds overweight. He put on the weight after the loss of his younger brother and sister.

During David's senior year of high-school, he went out with his friends when he was supposed to be looking after his younger siblings, and while he was out his younger brother found their Dad's gun cabinet, got a gun out, and accidentally shot and killed his youngest brother. Just six weeks later, David fell asleep before giving his younger sister seizure medication and she ended up passing away after having a seizure in her sleep.

As Broadway World notes, David was left with an incredible amount of guilt, but with the help of Chris as his trainer, he was able to work through his emotional baggage to finally lose the weight. But there was one more surprise in store for a very special person in David's life.

David proposed to his girlfriend of seven years, Kayla, who stood by his side despite his weight. Trainer Chris Powell called Kayla the girlfriend of the year, and Kayla was proud of David for finally losing the weight so they could start the next chapter of their life together.

Fans on Twitter were ecstatic for the couple, calling David's proposal slick and sweet.

I'm happy for them both looks like it paid off to stick it out with him. A high Schooler should not be held responsible for his siblings deaths the parents should have gotten daycare and let him enjoy his younger days not babysit them.

He should have been a proper child and listened to his parents and helped them out. Not leave his younger siblings alone.

So you always did everything your parents told you to do? You never, ever once did something your parents told you not to? Must be nice to be so darn perfect.

17- year olds have been doing it 4 decades. He was very irresponsible and is solely responsible 4 the death of his 2 siblings. I'm surprised he didn't try and commit suicide.

'Scuse me? Parents left this boy in charge a second time after proving to be irresponsible? What nuthouse are the parents in now. Can't image anyone ever trusting this guy with a grape, much less a child.

exactly....imagine what might happen to an infant with this guy. Who leaves two little children home alone...to go out and party and NOT realize it terribly wrong???? God Almighty...what a tragic thing for that family...not one child but two...and both on his watch! Granted his parents should have known better...but now he's an adult and I still wouldn't feel he's trustworthy...

So you believe that anyone who did something tragic in their teens never learned from their mistakes?

Parents are responsible for the gun and gun case. Parents are responsible to administering life saving medication...WHERE WERE THE PARENTS????

Why all the harshness?! Yes, he made two very tragic mistakes. I guess everyone who is bad mouthing him have never done anything was risky, or could've ended up killing someone. So none of you ran through a red light, stop sign, speeded, got behind the wheel when you were too tired, drunk or high. Seeing how much air you could get on the hills of a country road. All of those things could've ended very differently. I've never killed anyone, never came close, and yet I can sympathize with the guy.

interesting, responsible for brother and sister in his care, both died due to his negligence, why is this person not in prison for the death of both?

She better think twice about having children with this guy...his history of being a responsible babysitter is not commendable by any means. I'd NEVER marry someone so irresponsible...

A lot of details missing from this story. Like how could a child get into a gun cabinet AND get bullets...these parents are responsible!! How old was the brother who shot the youngest brother?
