'Antiques Roadshow': Small Statue Sells For Over $150,000 Dollars!

On "Antiques Roadshow," we revisited an impressive 1999 appraisal when a woman brought in an original Demetre Chiparus sculpture that her father had purchased for two Canadian dollars 40 years ago.

APPRAISER: "Usha and I have conferred and feel that very easily this is worth $100-$150,000 dollars America... U.S. Dollars.

WOMAN: "Oh my lord! Oh, that's wonderful!"

Demetre Chiparus was a Romanian-born, Paris-based artist who created sculptures of dancing figures during the height of the art deco era. His works have been very successful in recent years at auction houses, and Starfish was no exception, which sold in 2013 for more than $156,000.

Talk about a smart investment... but why are these sculptures worth so much?

TheTelegraph suggests it has to do with the beautiful use of ivory and bronze, as well as Chiparus' amazing re-creation of the human form.

If you're itching to get your hands on your very own Chiparus sculpture, you can shell out several hundred thousand dollars for the real thing--or you can get a beautiful replica cast model for around $11,000 at Christie's.
