Whether you love or hate her character Alex on Orange is the New Black, there is no denying our LOVE for Laura Prepon. The former 'That 70's Show' actress is everywhere at the moment promoting season 2 of OITNB. Laura's carefree style (and attitude) has made her one of our favorite actresses to watch. Whether she's dressed to the nines on the red carpet or dressed down for a trip out and about in L.A., Laura's style does not disappoint.
StyleList had a chance to catch up with Laura to find out more about this season of Orange is the New Black and of course, her enviable style.
StyleList (SL): What has been the best part about playing Alex on OITNB? What's been the most challenging part? Laura Prepon (LP): Alex is one of my favorite characters I've ever played. She's so cool, she's such a badass, but you also see these extremely vulnerable sides to her. She's a very complex character to play, which is amazing for me.
The challenging stuff is also the vulnerable stuff, because it's uncomfortable for anybody to be exposed vulnerable especially someone like Alex Vause. So that can be difficult. But, I love those scenes because thats where you grow the most as an actress...when you are pushed into areas you wouldn't normally go.
SL: You've said your character will be returning for season 3 (we missed you), is there anything you can tell us about Alex next season? LP: Thank you! I wish I could have done more of season 2. Yes, I am in every episode of season 3 and it's amazing. I can't say anything about it though...
SL: What did you do to prepare for your role as Alex on OITNB? LP: It's great that there was a book to give some insight and I visited a prison. But, really when playing a role like Alex, I really tried to humanize her by connecting to who she is as a person and making her a real person that I and our audiences can relate to.
SL: What has it been like working with such an incredible ensemble cast? LP: This cast is amazing. I've never worked with such a great group of talented actresses. It's been such a wonderful experience.
SL: If you were to see Alex outside of prison, what do you think she'd been seen wearing? LP: She'd probably be wearing a perfectly faded rocker-T, black jeans, and motorcycle boots. Her hair would be long and awesome and she'd have funky jewelry, and of course her glasses.
SL: Describe Alex in three words. LP: Bold, daring and a survivor
SL: You've had several different hair colors, do you have a favorite color? LP: So far I'm loving the black hair. Everyone in my life says it suits me.
SL: Who would you say inspires your personal style? LP: I'm not sure what inspires my personal style. I just never really wore dresses or skirts. I'm usually dressed like Alex. I prefer jeans, a T-shirt and boots. I like edginess to my clothes.
SL: What's the oldest item of clothing in your closet? LP: I have old rocker T's from 70s show that I will never get rid of.
