Final death toll of collapsed Brazil overpass is 2

SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian officials say rescue workers have recovered the body of a 25-year-old man crushed beneath tons of concrete and steel of an unfinished overpass that collapsed in the World Cup host city of Belo Horizonte.

A City Hall press officer says that rescuers recovered the body early Friday, hours after the small car was flattened by the collapse. No one else was in the car.

He says the final death toll is two. Officials say they had already assumed at least one person had died in the car. Twenty-two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The press officer spoke on condition of anonymity, citing internal regulations.

The collapse has been an embarrassment for the country, which has been basking in praise for what has mostly been a smoothly running soccer tournament.

In the near future you will read similar stories right here in the US. With our crumbing bridges and roads and all the tax money being spent in other countries instead of fixing our infrastructure this will be common in the US.

Evidently all you have to know to be an engineer in Brazil is how to drive a train.

Brooklyn Bridge is over 100 years old. Brazil bridge hasn't even opened yet, dirtbag.

The only age that counts is how long since the last inspection...

and... Brazil is responsible for the construction of the Olympic village? They are already behind, so I'm sure sort cuts will be taken.

Hopefully the housing for the athletes will be one story buildings. They don't fall as far.

some of our bridges and over passes are also in very poor shape in the USA, as usual nothing will be done about it until something big happenes, then there will be all kinds of finger pointing on who's the blame.

Collapse of bridges will be common-place in the united states, unless new infrastructure is implemented. The roads, bridges, & highways are falling apart.

My question is ... why it had to be a shoddy job? Geez! Stupid.

Although there are many bridges & overpasses in the Us that are in bad shape after decades of neglect, this overpass in Brazil was still under construction. There's a big difference between a decades old overpass collapsing because it wasn't maintained properly and an overpass constructed so poorly that it collapses before it's even finished.

Maybe the Drug Czars that run South America will feel bad and donate some profits from their Cocaine money to help the victim's and rebuild a better overpass... or maybe Not.
