Remembering 'Forrest Gump,' 20 years later

It's the 20th Anniversary of 'Forrest Gump,' and ET is diving into the vault to relive the classic picture that has been beloved since its debut in 1994.

Check out the gallery above for tons of awesome vintage photos, and take a peek at how 'young Forrest Gump' (and the rest of the famed cast) looks now. You've likely seen Tom Hanks and Robin Wright Penn lately, but the kid who ran his heart out is all grown up now. 29-year-old Michael Conner Humphreys actually joined the Army in 2005 and served as an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion 36th Infantry Regiment. In 2008, his enlistment ended and Hollywood called yet again. Today, he calls Tennessee home.

During his ET interview, Humphreys explains that the older Forrest's speech was actually based on Humphreys' 'thick, genuine' accent. You can watch the original screen test that got him the role and hear the secrets behind the 'Run, Forrest, Run!' scene in the video below:
