Idaho woman delivers baby while driving to doctor

HEYBURN, Idaho (AP) - An Idaho woman gave birth while driving to a doctor appointment and delivered her daughter by herself.

Shawna Uriguen delivered the 6-pound, 7-ounce baby Tuesday while she driving from work to a doctor's appointment, the Times-News reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1ocS1tx). She was on the phone with her fiance, Clay Crown, and said she was trying to find a place to pull over when the baby was born. She said she quickly got the baby out of her pant leg and checked to make sure she was OK.

Uriguen, 29, said she had been having contractions but didn't think she was in labor. The baby, named Kimber Marie Crown, was due on Saturday.

Uriguen said medics arrived in minutes, and she was taken to the hospital to get checked out. Uriguen said she and the baby are fine.

Glad to hear mother and child are fine but it would be nice to read a story about a baby's birth that mentions a husband rather than fiance or significant other. Doesn't anyone get married before having children anymore? Oh, forgive me I guess the people follow the Hollywood way of life.

You nit-pickers are missing the most important part of the story! It is very rare for human females to deliver babies unassisted and alone. She had no midwife, no doctor, not a paramedic or helper, and she managed. There had to be at least some pain and that could have easily caused her to crash her car. This is really extraordinary.

I had a hard time believing this -- I mean she was seated--driving the car and the baby was born and slid down her leg. I don't see how that could even happen. Again--she was SEATED -- so how did the baby slide out? I thnk she may have pulled over and gave birth, but this--I don't think so.

What a crazy story! Glad that they're both well. How does a baby come out when your sitting on the "exit"? And how did the baby fit in the pant leg? Was this her first? And no pushing? Sweet looking little Idaho spud! Thanks AOL for yet another incomplete news article. Sheesh

Nay sayers, get with it! When stories like this are published, it's a teaching moment. It tells us that if this ever happens to us, we will probably get through it. And, there are young girls & women who don't know that yes, babies can just "pop" out whether or not you've spent time in labor, painful or otherwise. Daahhhhhhh.
