World Cup: Updated FIFA World Cup Power Rankings After Round Of 16

The last 16 of the World Cup turned into the elite eight on Tuesday and the power rankings are stirring up. Much of it hasn't changed, partly because 16 other teams haven't played.

France grabbed two late goals against Nigeria and retook the number one spot on the power rankings.

Germany struggled against a poor Algerian team and nearly lost all of its World Cup reputation. They had to go into extra time, where they dominated over the African side.

Netherlands beat Mexico in a thriller that almost saw the Dutch lose their high hopes. Robben won a late penalty and Huntelaar converted it.

Costa Rica had an easy opponent in Greece but the matchup was still tough. Greece had a substantial amount of shots on goal but Navas, keeper for Costa Rica, kept most of them out. He was truly man of the match.

Argentina and Belgium play the same way. They are extremely dangerous teams riding on first gear right now. They still have yet to reach their full potential and show what they really can do. They play each other in the quarter finals.

Last but not least are the hosts Brazil. They are showing signs of weaknesses on defense and that should worry coach Scolari. Heading into their match with a dangerous Colombian side, the Brazilian defense needs to step it up a few notches.
