Target asks customers to leave firearms at home

9mm semi-automatic pistol with live ammunition

NEW YORK (AP) - Target is asking its customers to not bring firearms into its stores, even where it is allowed by law.

In a statement on the retailer's corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees.

"Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," he said.

Target Corp. made the announcement after questions arose in recent weeks about its policy on the "open carry" of firearms in its stores.

The Minneapolis company's stock added 53 cents to $58.90 in Wednesday morning trading.

Screw Target. I don't shop at Target anyway. Gun free zones are the reason we have all these mass shootings. Take away guns from the people who follow the laws and then only nut bags who don't follow laws will bring them to places like Target.

Maybe they should worry about how to keep their data safe and not tell me when I can and when I can't carry a firearm.

They have the right to ask customers to not come in armed and potential customers have the right to not shop at target, What is target going to do when a criminal comes in and shoots someone? The left can say all guns should be registered all they want but the fact is that criminals do not buy guns legally and the honest and law abiding people are the ones that pay the price.. I for one will not shop at target ever again because target has just made everyone who shops there a target for the criminals.

Ironic that their name and their logo symbolizes the use of firearms.

Knowing that law abiding citizens carry guns into the store kept criminals out. Now they can go in and commit crimes without fear of being killed.

let's see.....credit cards....and guns. OH of course they are so much alike! Get over it. Your NRA can be blamed on people's attitude toward guns. Crazy Wayne LaPierre is the WORST thing to happen to the NRA! They had every chance to to try to improve the bad image guns have and what do they do" They have some moron come out and say "It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun" That sure worked in Vegas recently. The "good guy" with a gun is DEAD! Nice try!

No concealed weapons allowed, but shoplifters and credit card thieves are ok.

I think open carry shocks, surprises and frightens many people. I would respect their request or make a decision to not shop there, not all that difficult a choice is it?

If you have a CWP and carry your firearm in the manner in which it should be carried, nobody will know that you are carrying.
