'Extreme Weight Loss': Widowed Army Wife's Shocking Story & Transformation

On 'Extreme Weight Loss,' Heidi and Chris Powell chose 46-year-old widowed army wife Melissa for the transformation of a lifetime.

As ET notes, the mother of three who almost quit the whole thing after her very first workout, was convinced to stick around by trainer Heidi Powell, and her decision to stay paid off big time.

When announcing Melissa's transformation shot, Heidi said, "Dang ... you are hot." Melissa dropped a total of 142 pounds and Heidi said her late husband would be proud of her for the transformation and for getting her life back on track.

The reason Melissa almost quit was because she was dealing with the loss of her husband, Mike, who suffered from post traumatic stress disorder and committed suicide when he jumped into a trash compactor at work.

For a long time, Heidi blamed herself and turned to food to deal with the pain, but it wasn't until her son was also diagnosed with PTSD after his father's passing, that she realized she needed to make a change.

As Heavy.com notes, Melissa not only succeeded losing the weight, but continues to do whatever she can to raise more awareness for PTSD.
