If you think you and your partner are a power couple, wait until you see this Pennsylvania duo highlighted on HLN: "When we met, I was actually about 400 pounds. Kalean lives on the third floor of an apartment building, and coming up two flights of steps would get us winded."
Danny Patton and Kalean Duffy have been together for about five years, and they told The Indiana Gazette they gained much of the weight as a couple by eating takeout and junk food frequently, although Patton said he'd been heavy for most of his life.
"It just came to the point where we knew that we had to (lose the weight)," Duffy said. "We were so heavy and it was so out of control."
Trimmed and Toned notes they started with small steps: cutting out processed foods and hitting the gym together. They've also had the same breakfast for 18 months straight: a healthy egg-white omelet with fresh veggies.
They're also active on Twitter, where Duffy posted about exercising on vacation, saying: "Working out on vacation is the toughest thing ever but so necessary after everything I have eaten."
In March, Patton told The Huffington Post more than a year after they'd begun making healthy changes, he'd lost 200 pounds and Duffy had lost 93. He told the outlet motivation didn't seem to be an issue once Duffy joined him.
"I've been on other diets in the past by myself without Kalean, and after a few months of losing some pounds, the motivation kind of left, and that's why it's good to always have that other person with you."
The couple advises others looking to lose weight to set achievable short-term goals and avoid fad diets.
