2 NY men suing lotto after throwing away $1M winning ticket

2 Men Suing Lotto After Throwing Away $1M Winning Ticket

MAHWAH, N.J. (AP) - Two New York men are suing the New Jersey Lottery after they threw out a Powerball ticket worth $1 million.

PIX11 reports: Salvatore Cambria and Erick Onyango, of Suffern, New York, argue in their federal lawsuit that the lottery didn't quickly update its website with the winning numbers from the March 23 drawing.

2 Men Suing Lotto After Throwing Away $1M Winning Ticket

Cambria tells The Record newspaper he asked Onyango to check the website soon after the 11 p.m. drawing. Cambria tossed the ticket when the numbers didn't match. The men now think the site was showing the previous drawing's numbers.

They say they realized they had won the next day, but by then, their ticket was on its way to a landfill in Canada.

The men say they have two other tickets showing serial numbers that prove they had a winner.

These guys were not playing with a full deck. Oh yeah, we kept the other two losers but only threw away the winner.

I play a local State DAILY lott and 99% of the time the site lists that day's winning numbers at 11:15 P.M. give or take a few minutes BUT >>>> You DO have to double check the date as a couple of times this year the new numbers didn't get posted till about 11:25.
I sign on the site regularly at about 11:20 to check AND.... One time I at first didn't look at the date and of course THAT DAY was one of the 11:25 postings. BUT...AS I was about to sign off I remembered. It turned out I didn't have a winner anyway, but it COULD have been one!
FOLKS, Make a habit of ALWAYS checking the date on the site's listing, even if it's an HOUR past the usual listing time!

Sounds like they are the typical New Yorkers.... expect to make an allegation without any proof (except their ignorance) and get a handout.
