World Cup: Updated FIFA World Cup power rankings

By Alex Kleyer
XN Sports

After a wild first week of games that saw Costa Rica upset Uruguay and Netherlands embarrass the defending champions Spain, the tempo didn't settle down in the following week.

Costa Rica continued to upset top ranked teams with their 1-0 win over Italy on Friday at the Arena Pernambuco. Germany continued their historic second game blues trend by almost losing to African side Ghana. France and the Netherlands have scored eight goals in their first two matches of the World Cup. And to seal the deal, England has been eliminated prematurely after being terrorized by Luis Suarez of Uruguay.

Here are the updated Power Rankings through the second week of games:

I find it mighty suspicious that most of the winning teams are from south america and wonder how much of that situation is a result of partiality of the referees

You must be confused with the NFL...they are the ones always grabbing each other's asses on a 'good play. good play'. The 'good' play is in the NFL shower stalls

Experience talk? You must have american football confused with "WORLD" soccer.

As an American in Costa Rica all I have to say is that having a President who shuts the government so employees can watch the game is pure Pura Vida!

That's because outside the US people "work to live" where in the US people "live to work".

After the coach and teammate actions and public statements the whole national team should take account and be punished.

Soccer is boring and take up to much tv time. It's one sport that is best left to the rest of the world.

Football? You mean Handball. That would be a proper name because in American football you barely use your feet.

Thanks to selfish Bradley for holding that ball and loosing it, 2 passes later a header into our goal. The coach should have noticed that Ronaldo switched sides for a reason and no action to cover that area. END RESULTS. 2-2 tie
