UK queen visits Belfast set of 'Game of Thrones'

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) - For Queen Elizabeth II, one throne is enough.

The United Kingdom's 88-year-old monarch toured the Belfast sets of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" and met many of its stars Tuesday beside the show's sword-covered seat of power, the Iron Throne.

Unlike many visitors to Belfast's Titanic Studios, the monarch declined to take a seat on the throne created for the ruler of the mythical Seven Kingdoms.

"Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss escorted the monarch through the show's custom-made armory, hangars of costumes, and sprawling sets used to shoot the program's interior scenes and perilous ice-cliff ascents - part of the biggest TV production ever mounted in Europe.

She chatted with actors Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, Rose Leslie and Conleth Hill.

This woman is an iconic figure. Plus, she may have seen the photo of obama depicted on it recently and why go there? Queen Elizabeth II is a very interesting historical figure and when she passes on, generations will look at her legacy as figurehead with some awe. She's certainly seen and been witness to a lot of history and has weathered many scandals - but she remains unscathed.

I imagine it gave him ideas, anyway...The Oval Office is only a photo op set, no real work has been done there in years - but a throne in there would certainly be in line with the current resident.

It would have been completely inappropriate for a real life monarch to sit on a prop throne for a TV series, and Queen Elizabeth is nothing if not appropriate at all times.

I think the Queen needs a real Jester, a true clown of the ages, named Barak Obama, the phony President of the United States of America!

Her behind stinks just like everyone else's. I would never bow down to her or any human that functions just like everyone else. No such thing as royalty here on earth.

Spoken like a true peasant! And if you were born royal I bet you'd be singing a different tune.

Never say never. If respect won't make you bow power might. Yes there is Royalty here on earth silly girl. You can refute that form of government but denying it exists is just stupid.

She so should have sat in it!! Not many, if anybody, can say they have ruled as long as she has. Royals get complaints that they are out of touch with the very people they 'rule.' Sitting in that throne is something many of us would love to do and she couldn't be bothered. Lame.
