Johnny Depp's 10 biggest career risks

In last year's box-office flop 'The Lone Ranger,' Johnny Depp played a Wild West-taming Tonto, which stirred up a bit of controversy. Still, anyone who has followed Depp's career over the last couple of decades would note that Tonto is no more contentious than a cockeyed swashbuckler in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise, a tripped-out Hunter S. Thompson in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' or a colorful Mad Hatter in 'Alice in Wonderland,' just to name a few. Depp has made a career out of bringing to life oddball personalities, some more honestly than others. In honor of his birthday in June, Do You Remember counts down 10 of his greatest onscreen manifestations.

Johnny Depp is certainly one of the greatest actors of all time and is a absolute GENIUS. His craft is essentially superlative on every level. His greatness is pure acting creativity and excellence......he never cheapens himself of his work with shallow gratuitous sex, politics, or trash language the way most popular performers do in an effort to win the Hollywood and Media acclaim. His name and achievements which cover the entire spectrum of genre will take a place among the greatest acting talent of all time. JOHNNY DEPP ROCKS and if you cannot see it, well, then sorry for YOU!

Depp is one of the best actors hollywood has to offer. He is not afraid to take on any charactor that he is offered. His talent is somewhat like that of Paul Muni. Muni, a great actor played many roles, in fact so many different kinds of roles, few people seeing him on screen didn't even reconize him. Depp is reconized by all, but still can be compared to Muni. I think he will go down as a great actor. I reconized his talent in his first film, Cry Baby.

Possibly greatest actor ever was Peter Sellers particulary in films such as Dr. Strangelove and Mouse That Roared where he played multiple characters so well or in Lolita where his Quilty character shows up in various disguises thruout the film. But Depp has been indeed great in his many films. ☺

I agree with the comparison to Muni. He's always so thoroughly in character that you can see him one day in one type of role, and the next in a completely different, and still believe in both.

Lone Ranger might've been a flop at the box office, but I found it very entertaining. Unfortunately, the box office speaks with more authority.

Love him! And he is the man to follow in Jack Nicholson's steps... as a respected actor who always plays himself— a man who loves beautiful women.

The characters played by Nicholson and Depp have much more profundity than your shallow, superficial statement about them being womanizers. These men, and the characters they play, deserve much more than that. Yes, they appreciate beauty, as most of us do, but what they have given of themselves to the public is priceless.

Edward Scissorhands is one of my all time favorites. when he teams up with Tim Burton, it's always a good thing. Only good things to say...

Me too. He definitely makes a great team with Burton. Winona was not exactly feeble in that either.

Johnny Depp is like all actors some rolls are great some are a waste of time. HIs good looks is what women go to see. They don't care if he can act his way out of a paper bag. How do you think they can stand to sit through some of the dumb movies he makes. Mark Wahlberg is another one very very handsome, Ryan Goslling the list goes on and on. Women pay to see THEM they dont care what the movie is about.. Wake up... like men go see the women they like to look at..........It is nothing new..
I like him but I dont think he is a great as this article says he is. Just my thoughts
