Shelly Sterling seeks protections for witnesses

By Tami Abdollah

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Shelly Sterling's attorneys will ask a judge Thursday to order Donald Sterling and his attorneys to not threaten, harass or intimidate his wife's legal team and doctors who determined the Los Angeles Clippers' co-owner was mentally incapacitated.

A person with knowledge of the legal proceedings told The Associated Press that the urgent request seeks protections for witnesses including three doctors who may be witnesses in next month's scheduled trial to determine if Shelly Sterling can sell the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.

The individual wasn't authorized to comment and spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday night on condition of anonymity.

Donald Sterling's attorney, Maxwell Blecher, said a representative will be in court but wouldn't comment further. Representatives for Shelly Sterling and her attorney, Pierce O'Donnell, declined comment.

It's unclear what or if any specific incidents led to the decision to go to court Thursday. Neither party commented and court papers were not filed.

Shelly Sterling's deal with Ballmer was struck after Donald Sterling's racist remarks to a girlfriend were recorded and publicized. The NBA moved to oust him as team owner, fined him $2.5 million and banned him for life.

O'Donnell said doctors determined the 80-year-old Donald Sterling was mentally "incapacitated" thereby making her sole administrator of the family trust, which owns the team, according to its terms. Donald Sterling is fighting that contention and her authority to sell. The deal would be record breaking if approved by the NBA's owners.

Donald Sterling is also suing the NBA for $1 billion in federal court and alleges the league violated his constitutional rights, committed breach of contract and violated antitrust laws. He has hired four private investigations firms to dig up dirt on the NBA's former and current commissioners and its owners, according to a person familiar with Donald Sterling's legal strategy.

If he is truly "mentally incapacitated" why is he being held accountable for what he said and the sale of the team being forced in the first place? He is either mentally ill or he is not, you can't play it both ways depending one what works best for your interest... If he is truly "mentally incapacitated" then the NBA should not be attacking and condemning a mentally ill person that likely didn't know what he was saying, should they?

Negro, negro, negro.....hmmmmm exactly what was it that was so offensive that
Sterling spoke of? Lets see now: Websters states " Negro, a person with black or
brown skin, brown eyes, wiry curly hair, and originating in the African
sub-continent. So what was it that was said that was so offensive?

Racism is very much an issue today. This NBA mob acts as if Sterling is the only person who is racist. They need to only look in the mirror to see other racists. Lucky for them no private comments they made were recorded and sent to the media. Silver and the NBA owners think we are very stupid and want us to believe they are wonderful and Sterling is bad. Jumping on someone who got caught making a racist comment does not prove you are not. Racism is national problem and punishing a single person solves nothing at all.

The politically correct crowd need to dry up and go away. It's sad when a person can't express his opinion in private and have to worry about offending someone. Plain and simple.......
If you don't like Sterling or what he said don't support his team, but to force him to sell his team is not right. Sterling didn't even use the "N" word and this is still happening.
I guess the first amendment is the freedom of speech as long as you don't offend anyone. Watch out Americans the PC cops will be coming for you next.

This is one of THE WORST written articles I've ever read. In the first part of it, you cannot determine if the doctors determined if Shelly is incompetent or if Mr. Sterling is incompetent. Finally, much further down in the article, that is clarified. THEN, in the next to last paragraph, it reads that someone identified as "her" is the sole administrator. Who exactly is "her?" An attorney? A judge? One can decipher that it is Mrs. Sterling. Nonetheless, very poorly written.

Donald is no more senile than the greened beautiful vigilant copper found in the crown of the Statue of Liberty. A few American's don't realize how needful is the proper treatment of that Lady on Liberty Island. Our national sovereign symbol of welcome to the desperate and vanquished battered but grandly hopeful in America and a whole new life here based on actual liberty found no where else on earth. Be cautious of how you treat her Mr. president for only America is wider than your harsh lopsided misgivings and the liberal media that has died to the light trying to sustain your caprice. Be thankful America for the courage of Donald Sterling and the principle of patronly endurance he signifies!

Disband the NBA. To put down a brillant successful business woman with mental incapacity, to rob her husband in public, is rape to Wonen's Rights, is Elder Abuse, and battery. Mrs. Sterlening, please don't give an inch.

Wrong. They are called "Crazy Liberals." Since we are now "redefining" what a word means, the meaning of Liberals is NOW officially, "Mental illness. Obsessive behavior to right the wrongs of dead people to feel better about themselves. Inability to engage in conversation that does not agree with them. Inability to handle facts."

What really get me is we haven't seen any black go to court over racial slurs towards whites. The simple injustice of that will eventually raise it's ugly head when either both whites and blacks quit being so sensitive or they both revolt against the mush-minds who can't get over simple words.
So if a black calls you a cracker, blowfish, bunker, bird sh_t, and a whole long list of others, turn them in for racial slurs and hate crimes. Fair play.
