Dispatcher tells rape victim to stop crying

911 Dispatcher Tells Rape Victim To 'Quit Crying'

"Ma'am, you're going to have to quit crying."

That's what a 911 dispatcher in Columbus, Ohio told an alleged rape victim.

The woman who called 911 says a man broke into her home around 4am and forced her to perform oral sex on him at gunpoint before stealing several items and fleeing.

Dispatcher: "Where did he come in at?"
Caller: "I have no idea. I have no idea. I think the back door."
Dispatcher: "They aren't going to be able to find him on this information that you have given."
Caller: "I don't know what you deal with every day, but the kind of sympathy you have is zero."

The dispatcher's supervisor told WSYX the call could have been handled better, but the dispatcher won't be disciplined because the victim got help and the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Michael Callaghan, was arrested.

The department says out of the 1.5 million calls its received this year, only six resulted in complaints.

The dispatcher should be severely reprimanded or fired. She evidently has no compassion.

The supervisor and dispatcher need to be fired. As a police officer I find this extremely troubling. Thank goodness I have excellent dispatchers in my jurisdiction

This dispatcher needs to be let go. (fired). Almost all 911 victims need sympathy, courtesy, respect and compassion. Once a dispatcher loses these qualities and has become immune to these types of crime, Its time to let them go. Victims need you now, Its up to the dispatcher to bring comfort to them and they need it now. What happened to this woman was treated like it was no big deal. No....this does not happen every day and it should never happen ever.

I agree with the dispatcher. Did you call to get help or to cry on my shoulder? Dry it up women and give me the facts. Call someone else for sympathy.

Dispatcher sounds like a complete idiot. If that's the kind of response they give in Ohio, then I think they should discover the 2nd Amendment, and after stopping him with your equalizer........just call the police.

So insensitive! As an empath/psychic network reader this woman should be fired or take a class in compassion. But it's too late, most likely. Sad.

Emergency workers become insensitive to tragedy like doctors that have to finish reading their magazine before emergency surgery

you are right rweruss, totally. if you ever read thru many of the responses to terrible situations by 911 operators, you would wonder how in the world they got hired . people die because these idiots on the phone demand to get a thrill I guess before they send help. they are pathetic.

You are truly a blue ribbon idiot and have no idea what that job entails. If the dispatcher can not get the required information no help can be sent which will take another Ten to Twenty Minutes to get there. So all the while the dispatcher is unable to determine what is needed the victim is still in danger. But I'm sure you considered all those factors before printing your mindless statement.

What did you expect from a random 911 call?
