Celebrity wedding cakes

When we heard about the new naked cake trend, we started thinking about dessert from years past.

Whether absolutely massive (we're looking at your three-tiered creation, Donald Trump, Jr.) or adorably dainty like Jane Fonda and Roger Vadim's, take a sugary ride down memory lane. Warning: It's pretty much impossible to make it through the whole gallery without craving a huge slice of something sweet.

Many of these marriages didn't last ... and in fact, Frank Sinatra ended up in this gallery twice. Drama aside, we're glad these cakes are finally getting their rightful place in history.

One good thing about this news article, is that I don't have to see, or hear about the Kardashian wedding! I am so sick of turning on my computer, that I have even stopped doing so, so I don't have to hear or see anything about this 'TRASH', any longer!

Regarding this article, back then, journalist may have wrtten a story on these celeb's marriages one time, and that was the end of it. And, they gave the people real news, that was going on and provided, just that, 'The News"! Something todays jouralist No nothing about. Insead, today they print lies and trash for days, and the public is tired of this type of reporting "NEWS", but has No Quality whatsoever. Awareness, is what should be told, and in today's world, 'Follow-up's' on events, and things that affect peoples lives is importat! Investiagative Reporting has died, and has No importance in today's way of informing the people. And, those reporting, have lost their credibility in what they write, and Editor's allow it!

Well said! I could not agree more. I don't understand why anyone cares about the Kardashian family. There is not a teaspoon of talent in the entire family. They are all pathetic. I'm waiting to hear that the son falls off the edge of the earth because of his weight gain. They should have an intervention instead of focusing on that punk Kanye and his porn star wife. You must have a truly boring life to tune into this crap. Never watched them, never will, but I agree. Report something that is newsworthy instead of this trash.

My husband and didn't have a wedding. We were married in church by a minister and had two close friends as witnesses standing there when we took our vows, and no it didn't take place in Vegas. Afterward, we invited the pastor, his wife, and our two friends to dinner at a local restaurant where the waitress took pictures of us cutting a department store sheet cake. It was the most simple, appropriate event for us back then in 1981. I'm a widow now, we were together 31 years, and I never missed not having a traditional wedding or a fancy wedding cake.

an online friend's daughter and fiance thought they wanted a big wedding, church and reception - after a couple weeks planning they took both sets of parents to dinner and told them they had changed their minds and wanted a bbq in one of the parents' huge backyards -- so that was what they did -- the bride rented a dress, he a tux and afterwards changed into shorts and t-shirts that had bride/group on their shirts and t-shoes - guest wore the same -- a tent and portapotties were rented - the food was supplied by a church women's group that fund a homeless project with their proceeds - wedding gifts were mostly gift cards from Lowe's, Home Depot -- the two sets of parents gave them the funds for the downpayment on a small modest house -- with the signed agreement that if the marriage ended in divorce before 10 years the house would be sold and the parents' funds paid back -- an uncle donated his labor to help them refinish the hardwood floors in the house, couple worked in the home.

My husband and I were married in an empty church, our friends who were to stand up for us did not show up. Our 4 year old son was there, it was 1997. We had a store bought cake at a local karaoke bar where our friends we all at. next month on the 11th would have been our 18th anniversary. My hubby passed June 30th 2010, he passed at his family home, on hospice...I cared for him with the great help of our son. But I would not have changed a thing. It represented our lifestyle, happy wherever we were.....I pray for you to heal from the loss.... I know it is hard... never goes away. the anniversary of his death and our marriage within weeks of each other is still hard. God bless you, try to find a way to enjoy life now, although so different. He would want it that way. Annamarie

No matter how much you spend on the wedding and the cake, if there's not enough love and forgiveness in the relationship it will not be happy or last. It takes time and attention on both sides everyday to make a marriage last.

LOL! Well - you definitely have to have a sense of humor to stay married. Respect is important, and a good foundation of love. If it can survive the test of time then maybe there is an element of luck involved as well. After 45 yrs. of marriage and three kids I'm still not sure. It's all a blur at this point. Ha.

My husband have been together 48 years as of this July 30, 2014. We were married in a small church with only 2 family witnesses followed by dinner for the 4 of us at a nearby restaurant and then my husband and I returned to a house that my in laws sold to us with with a 500 dollar reduction on the price as a wedding gift. They financed the house for us so that we didn't have to pay interest on the payments. $500 was a lot of money in 1966 when I was bringing home a paycheck of 54.00 net per week and my husband a check of $150 net per week. We were very lucky. What happened to those days when family helped family and welfare was almost unheard of? What happened to marriage? Liberalism? I think that has played a big part in the breakdown of marriage and family values in our country. There is no value to respect and morality in today's world. Why? Has parenting been such a bust as to cause this kind of break down? I think so.

to feel better about themselves, I guess. After all, the Kardasians are so effed up - they make everyone else look normal. What a bunch of disgusting pigs.

BECAUSE THE CAKES LASTED LONGER THAN THE MARRIAGES OF SOME OF THESE FOLKS!

Sorry to say, marriage is basically over with in America, don't know about other countries but here it's done, what a shame, I blame it on Liberalism. People get tired of each other very quickly these days, is it the TV?

I love how these photos depict some of the most recognised screen legends... enjoying their special day with a handfull of friends and a modest cake. Fast forward to 2014 and it is all about the press, the dress, the hooplah, the 500 guests and how elaborate and ostintacious the event can be.
