'Antiques Roadshow': Boy Scout items worth small fortune

On "Antiques Roadshow," a woman brought in a collection of boy scout neckerchiefs that she bought at a flea market for just one dollar.

She said the cashier at the grocery store put all of the pieces in a plastic bag and she couldn't help but think one dollar for an instant collection was a good investment...even though she didn't know what the pieces were.

APPRAISER:

"I would say that the value is probably more like a thousand dollars."

PATTY:

"Really?! Wow! Woohoo! Hahahaha! A dollar for a thousand dollars! Yay!!"

That's right. The collection was worth a thousand times what she paid for it. Not too shabby.

PBS notes that one of the things boy scouts do as a right of passage is get a neckerchief that relates to their personality.

The appraiser said the boy scout slides were carved out of wood and stained to look nice. She added that she would date the pieces from the 1940's.
