UK Woman Having Heart Attack Denied Help

A UK family is devastated after a grandmother suffering from a heart attack was left helpless at a hospital.

A receptionist at Palmer Community hospital told 58-year-old Hannah Barnes she had to call her own ambulance because she didn't meet what's called "urgency criteria."

Receptionists are supposed to make a quick visual assessment of a patient's condition when they arrive. If they request an ambulance, they're supposed to seek advice from a GP.

The grandmother of three walked to the center after she began feeling symptoms of a heart attack - she's already had one.

After being rejected by employees, she frantically searched for her phone in her bag to make the call herself...but it was too late.

She was admitted to the hospital where she has stayed for the past week in a critical condition after suffering her second heart attack since January.

The Daily Caller reports receptionists at medical centers in the UK don't have a great history - a study from the 1980s called them "the dragons behind the desk" and later a group of researchers revealed many were often under-trained and overworked.

So far, none of the employees at the community hospital have faced any legal punishment.

The 911 system in the US would probably work a lot more efficiently if there weren't
idiots calling in and complaining because their pizza was cold or they didn't get
chicken Mcnuggets with their order.

So much for free health care in the UK. Now you all know what it is really like when the government has a grand idea for medical funding. Humm, can anyone say obamacare???

This kind of thing happens here as well. My brother went to a hospital in NJ and was refused treatment for hours, humiliated, abused and ignored because the overworked doctor thought he was faking what turned out to be a very serious illness that resulted in my brother spending almost 6 months in the hospital and partially paralyzed ten years later. If he had been treated as soon as he came in, he wouldn't be in the bad shape he is now. This was well before Obamacare, so don't bring that crap into it. Truth is health care is a crapshoot under the best of circumatances. Just google hospital horror stories and you'll see.

She needs to sue that hospital! they complain that Americans are sue-happy, but incidences like this are the reason why. A RECEPTIONIST is supposed to LOOK at a person and be able to tell what ails him or her???? Is the receptionist a trained medical practitioner? Does the receptionist have experience in diagnosing/assessing medical emergencies? Even if the answer to all these questions is yes, you still cannot necessarily LOOK at a person and tell whether or not ah or she is having a heart attack! Who thought up that bright idea? Better still, who thought it would be great to implement it?

There will be no accountability with Obama care, you see it know with any government run program. Nobody ever gets fired. Next will be you can't sue under Obama care.

Hopefully what goes around comes around. Hospital personnel should at the very least, be hired only after it's determined they have a working brain. Management is to blame for not hiring and training properly.

Well, that's seriously confusing. Don't people in the UK get the best medical care possible? I thought that was the purpose of single-payer, so everyone could have the best. That no one would suffer because they couldn't afford their own care.
