Garage where Deep Throat revealed secrets to be demolished

Garage Where Deep Throat Revealed Secrets To Be Demolished

It helped take down President Richard Nixon, and now, it's being taken down. The parking garage where the mysterious informant known as Deep Throat provided secrets about the Watergate scandal will be demolished.

WUSA9 reports, "The Arlington County Board has now voted to demolish the garage and replace it with a 28-story residential tower and 24-story commercial building."

Of course, the garage is where Washington Post reporter, Bob Woodward, met the source -- then known as Deep Throat -- in the early 1970s during the Watergate scandal, chronicled in the movie "All The President's Men." Former F.B.I. agent Mark Felt revealed himself as Deep Throat in 2005.

The Post wrote of the tear-down news, "One of the most historic journalism sites of the past half-century will soon vanish."

‚ÄčThe project has been in the works for some time, but the decision was officially made Saturday. It is certainly the destruction of an incredibly significant structure, but it's also a significant structure that was chosen for its unimportance.

Felt picked the garage because it was anonymous. He was the second-highest official in the FBI at the time, and told Vanity Fair in his 2005 reveal that the garage offered a dark venue with a clear view of potential intruders.

Now, the spot could offer good news for Rossalyn, Virginia, where it's located. The Post also notes that the local county board seems excited about the construction, saying that the new buildings will bring affordable housing and office and retail space.

WJLA reports, "Developers plan to replace the 60s-era complex with a mixed-use development. A marker noting the location's historical significance will remain."

The landowner has also promised to construct some kind of memorial to the events at the site. The garage is scheduled to be demolished no earlier than January of 2017. This year marks the 40th anniversary of President Nixon leaving the White House following the scandal.

as the targeting of Conservatives is investigated..!
Yet, there is ot one story about this on HUFF / AOL....!

A POTUS is never impeached just for doing a bad job. If so a lot more than just 2 presidents (Andrew Johnson & Bubba Clinton w/ Nixon as a possible 3rd if he hadn't resigned) would've been impeached. Sure, Obama may be a mediocre prez but we're stuck with him until late January 2017. ☺

Yep democrats had control of both houses in nixons term in office as usual for any republiican president.. few that they are.....so once again even with a republican president nothing nixon wanted was ever passed in the democrat contolled congress...they ran the show not nixon...and they forced him to step down but in that period in time nixon did what he thought was best for the people..sadly that courage and professionalism exist no longer in any democrat president...hell you could burn the white house down and no democrat would resign that office that may be holding this office including obama..no pride in country exsist in this party.. never has...

Nixon is where our economic troubles first began. He drove the first knife into the back of America through such radical overspending that the gold standard had to be removed and this current shell game set up. A political gambit to make democrats look like the bad guy for raising taxes to pay for republican wreckless spending. Then Reagan with that ridiculous supplyside/trickledown economic theory and de-regulation. Then the final blow freetrade under Bush, Clinton and Bush. And, you can see by Clinton's participation exactly where the middle class lost the representation of both parties. The good news is that the tea party is now distroying everything the republicans built, they are dividing the party and jeopardizing 50 years of republican maneuvering. The republicans are going to have to side with the democrats if they want to salvage any part of their future. Otherwise, they'll end up in the sawdust with the rest of us.

Nixon removed the Gold standard because the French became wise to the ponzi sheme known as the Federal Reserve and wanted their payment in gold. Go take a history lesson or two before you try to act like you are informed, You are delusional. It was the democrat Wilson and a democrat controlled House and Senate that removed the gold standard and gave us the federal reserve in 1913. Go cash your welfare check and go back to school.

Actually, Wilson created the Federal Reserve System, it was FDR who got the ball rolling to end of the Gold Standard in 1933 and Nixon took us off it completely in '71. Go cash your subsidy check and go to school.

Gee, let's create a Watergate revival to smokescreen the current administration's blatant transgressions. Two years' worth of "lost" emails about communications regarding Lois "The Swamp Sow" Lerner?? Aah, no big deal.

Was Nixon in on the original break-in? I don't think so. I think he may have said, words to the effect, "I wish we knew what the Decmocrats were planning for the fall campaign." So, some of the staffers plotted the break-in at Democrat HQ.

This reminds me of King Henry II, asking rhetoically, if anyone would rid him of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Beckett, and several knights did just that.

But, Nixon was part of the conspiracy to cover up the break-in, as well as the fact that planning had taken place at very high levels within the White House. If Nixon, instead of covering up the plot, had assembled a team of top-notch prosecutors, given them carte blanche to find the truth, and fired those involved and pushed for their prosecution, Nixon would be remembered for his foreign policy achievements, as well as the creation of the EPA and OSHA, rather than the cover-up of a 3rd rate burglary.

That's the same kind of things some people say about Manson. And, BTY, Nixon will be remembered as a crook.

We are so forgiving that we forgave an "old" scumbag named Mark Felt, who was an associate director of the FBI, for violating all security protocol and his sacred oath of office because he was passed over for promotion to "Director" of the FBI. Maybe someone knew he had a big streak of "traitor" in him. Decades later when he revealed himself his family took turns stepping forward to tell us what a great "American" this backstabbing bastard is.

Archie, is that you?!? Nixon was a lying dirt bag.

I will support and defend the Constitution of the
United States against all enemies, foreign and
domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to
the same; that I take this obligation freely, without
any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that
I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the
office on which I am about to enter. So help me God

Sounds as if he lived up to the oath of the FBI. Talk about president that needed to be impeached. Ford was the backstabber. Put the knife right between America's shoulder blades.

Fair and Balance is Fox news. You will find Woodward on the air there most of the time. The main news Media are not reporting issues as the exists. Nothing about the southern borders. when it comes to Iraq, Ben is dead, Al -arab on the run, Detroit is alive, our borders are secure.
