LA Kings win the Cup on Martinez's double-OT goal

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Alec Martinez scored 14:43 into the second overtime, and the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup for the second time in three years with a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 5 on Friday night.

Marian Gaborik scored a tying power-play goal with 12:04 left in regulation for the resilient Kings, who rallied from yet another deficit before finishing off the Rangers in the longest game in franchise history.

Jonathan Quick made 28 saves and Justin Williams scored an early goal as Los Angeles added a second title to its 2012 championship, the first in the franchise's 47-year history.

After innumerable late chances, Martinez popped home a rebound of Tyler Toffoli's shot. Martinez also scored the overtime winner to beat Chicago in the Western Conference finals.

For a team that never said die, this Stanley Cup win was for real !!! . . . And for a team, that for so long never had a winning formula, it is so nice to see a talented group of players, coaches and owners do what they have accomplished.

If it wasn't for the horrible officiating, the Rangers would be on their way home up 3 games to 2 in the series. Without two of the refs most inexplicable mistakes, the Rangers would have probably won games 2 and 5 in regulation time. I'm surprised that I didn't see the refs hoisting the cup with their other black and white clad teammates.

Like any good zombie, the Kings always find a way to come back from the virtual dead...never give up on them and never count them out!

'Instant Replay' especially on any sport that's going for a champioship; should be mandatory. Too many bad calls from Brazil in the World Cup (Nipon Reward=Gift), to L.A. Get it together officials!! The Kings are lucky that's all. Sometimes it bounces the other way. But nevertheless the Kings won; that's the reality. Again and again (Instant Replay), make it fair so we all can feel good about who won!!

What a JOKE ..... The RANGERS were robbed twice. Did they find these ref from a mental institution or were they paid BIG MONEY to generate bad calls against the visiting team. GAME 2 @ LA GOALIE INTERFERENCE ( puts a power play on for the KINGS. GAME 5 back in LA tripping call against the RANGERS and the Kings guy involved tripped the Ranger first also creating another power play to score a goal. Not a soar looser here however look at the replays. A seeing eye dog would have made a better call. I challenge those fairy refs to weigh in here and let us know how much money they got under the table to throw the game. They should be investigated or demoted to Jr Hockey for 5 year olds.
