UFC's Chael Sonnen retires after failed drug test

Chael Sonnen Announces Retirement

LOS ANGELES (AP) - UFC veteran Chael Sonnen retired from mixed martial arts a day after confirming he failed a recent drug test.

Sonnen's bout with Vitor Belfort at UFC 175 in Las Vegas next month was scrapped after Sonnen tested positive for two banned substances.

The 37-year-old Sonnen (28-14-1) says he took the substances to ease his transition off testosterone replacement therapy, which was banned by the Nevada Athletic Commission earlier this year.

Sonnen has lost three of his last four fights, including UFC title shots against Anderson Silva and Jon Jones.

Sonnen lost all three of his career UFC championship fights. He made his UFC debut in 2005.

He announced his retirement Wednesday on Fox Sports, where he serves as a UFC commentator.

As long as their is big money involved for sports their will be the use of performance enhancement drugs. " get bigger get stronger at all costs " !

LOL...If people really believe that pro athletes do not use performance enhancing drugs then we have a population of stupidity.

MOST UFC fighters are on juice of some kind.

Ken Shamrock admits to being juiced. And he sees nothing wrong with it.

He should've spent more time on fight technique and less on running his mouth.

Chael, You were once a great fighter. Why do great athletes like yourself try to cheat ? It cheapens the sport and it appears that you stole from your fellow fighters.Your past wins mean nothing now. you are a user and a weak willed person that should have never been in the game in the first place. Go away and hide somewhere.

Sonnen tried to stay in the fight game a little too long. He's an extremely good commentator and color man. Hope he continues with that.

Why is it that whether it is sports or politics when someone gets CAUGHT and revealed all of a sudden they RETIRE? He knew darn well what he was doing because he was caught before. Besides, he sure isn't much of a TV host. All he did was scream and was really annoying. I never thought he was that great of a fighter because it seemed he would fight anybody for a buck.

Fighting is not a sport, it promotes violence, the UFC and other leagues, make it okay, to beat the daylights, out of someone for no reason, that's what bullying is all about, I should know, because I was on the wrong end, of that behavior, I'm scarred for life

Let me just say, if everyone we were REQUIRED to retire over a failed drug test, I would have sailed off into the sunset 4 or 5 times already. On the bright side, that's a lot of retirement parties
