P.F. Chang's data breach prompts investigation

P.F. Chang's Data Breach Prompts Investigation

If you recently used a credit card at P.F. Chang's, listen up. Fox News reports that "the popular restaurant chain P.F. Chang's saying customers' credit card information may have been compromised. The credit and debit card data was posted for sale on a website used by cybercriminals."

Information from the credit cards was reportedly put up on the darknet website Rescator June 9. According to TechTarget, it's the same site that sold information stolen from credit cards used at Target back in November.

Brian Krebs, an independent journalist who formerly wrote for The Washington Post's Security Fix blog, reported on his blog that multiple banks are indicating the stolen credit cards were used at P.F. Chang restaurants between the beginning of March and May 19 of this year.

P.F. Chang's has locations all over the world, including in Mexico, the Philippines and Turkey.

But banks are indicating the stolen credit cards were used in restaurants in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Nevada and Florida.

Investigators still don't exactly know how the information was stolen from P.F. Chang's.

A writer for New Republic says hackers steal the information that's embedded on the card's magnetic strip. This information can then be encoded into a new credit card.

The chief brand officer for P.F. Chang's released a statement after news broke of the hack. Bloomberg published that statement, which said: "P.F. Chang's takes these matters very seriously and is currently investigating the situation, working with the authorities to learn more ... We will provide an update as soon as we have additional information."

This is the first significant data breach in the U.S. since March, when information from almost 300,000 credit and debit cards was stolen from Sally Beauty customers.

Why was this article placed right next to the one about the world's oldest cat dying?

That's funny.......restaurants are packed every weekend. Sometimes an hour or more wait for a table. Even at this crappy place.

I've prepared dishes for most celebs including Hilary Clinton, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Rudi Guiliani, you name it.
If they were coming in on the Learjet the pilots would fax me the menu before the jet even hit the tarmac. Usually they would fuel-up and keep right on going.
Me and the prep staff had about an hour to have it ready to load onto the Lear.
This might be anything Garlic Hummus and Pita Chips, fillet mignon, crudites with blue cheese dip, Cobb salad with fresh avocado, certain kind of yogurt, anything. Sometimes it was tough when the jet landed and I was still puting together.
But the one that pulled my strings was a corporate CEO that wanted PF Chang. WHAT ? Here I'm a master chef and I can make food that Chang who ever, couldn't even imagine and they wanted PF Chang. It didn't happen, sorry.

This is not the first time P.F. Chang's was involved in stolen credit card information; the last time was when a inside ring of employees who were found stealing credit card data from customers. Makes me wonder if this is actually an Asian gang crime conspired against P.F. Chang's financial success.

Hate to see this happen to yet another establishment.

They have very good food, for a chain restaurant.

Pay CASH~!!

Someone just tried to charge $216 on my credit card in New Jersey. Since I live in CA the $216 charge was denied. I didn't use the card at P.F. Chang's so it got "lifted" somewhere else.

It could've been anywhere you went to. I live in the South and I had someone order stuff from Newport News catalog on my credit card--to NYC.

PF Chang's is to Chinese food what Olive Garden is to Italian food--a total insult.
