Home about to fall over 75-foot cliff

Home About To Fall Over 75-Foot Cliff

There's no place like home -- unless that home is beginning to crumble and topple off a 75-foot cliff. A Texas home is teetering on the edge of a cliff after a chunk of earth crumbled and fell 75 feet into the lake below.

Part of the home already went down. Neighbors told CBS they heard a loud noise, caused by a large piece of the home breaking off. Luckily, homeowners were preemptively ordered to leave before their home made its descent, so they weren't injured.

"It was seconds, really. It had already...you could see more and more of the top of the roof," neighbors told WFAA.

The owners of the home have known about the danger of their home for a while -- the sheriff's department said that they noticed a crack in the land under the home about a year ago. Regardless, time was definitely on the homeowner's side. They evacuated their home just two weeks prior to the crumbling.

It won't be long before the whole house takes the plunge. Officials expect the rest of the house worth $700,000 is going to fall in, but it's just a matter of when.

Building near a cliff is as dumb as building on a beach or at the foot of a mountain.

Um... what is stupid is not building on a cliff, but rather building close to the high tide mark. One big storm and major flooding and homes wash away. Flooding damage and even deaths happen over and over in NJ, California, etc., but it's very rare to happen in Maine because the homes are usually higher up on the rocky coast. Stone cliffs almost never collapse - because they are made of granite, but severe flooding happens all the time.

You might add houses built along the Missisippi river to your list, too.

One could also say it is dumb to build in New Orleans which is below sea level but that hasn't stopped anyone.

"incredible right?" Incredibly stupid. Insurance should not cover that. What kind of a genius throughout the whole process thought that was a good idea?

It's too late now, but people like this usually wont let me help them anyhow.
While the home was still intact it could have been saved by disconnecting the plumbing and wiring and dragging it with big chains and dozers to safety.
My guess is it's heavily insured.
