More Couples Signing Social Media Pre-Nups

If you want to make sure your spouse doesn't post an unflattering photo of you online, you may want to put it in writing.

Facebook has been used to announce everything from engagements to breakups, but what about those embarrassing photos your husband posted last week? He may not have shared the pic if you had a social media prenup in place. Lawyers are drawing up digital agreements pinning down specifics about what can and cannot be posted.

"We have to create a new model that we include a conscious agreement about how we are going to include social media in our lives," says relationship expert Dr. Sheri Meyers who believe the prenups are a necessary tool.

Celebrities who reportedly know all about prenups:

The agreements include rules about what is fair to post on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Vine. From outlawing embarrassing stories to saying "no" to bathing suit photos, every couple has unique boundaries.

So, what happens if you violate one of these social media prenups? If it is after you break up, you could be facing thousands of dollars in fines. If it happens while you are still together, you may find yourself suddenly on trash duty.

What do you think about social media prenups? Do they seem smart or silly? Tell us in the comments below.

It's too bad that decency has to be introduced to the concept of marriage.

prenups are for people who know they will get a divorce

And if you are a grown up, you know people and things change. That's part of life. It always has been. You WANT people to grow and mature if you are a normal person anyway. It didn't used to be a problem. People didn't expect marriage to be a 24/7 ride on the ferris wheel. They were mature enough to understand that marriage ebbs and flows like all relationships and you don't throw in the towel just because you hit a rocky patch. Grow up or don't get married and save everyone who gets stuck in your world a lot of grief.

I'm so confused. What is the point of getting married if you plan on getting divorced? If you aren't in it for the long haul, for better or worse, why get in it at all? Why not just live together, live separate individual lives and get together only when you have big itch, sexual itch? What ever happened to "Sanctity of
marriage" that everyone like to throw around? I've been married to the same women for 46 years. They haven't all been perfect and we have had to work at it. It has been 46 years of give and take.

i think its stupid as these sites already have privacy policies stating you cant post photos of other people without their permission, theres also a sort of anti blackmail photo law that was put in place, this is just lawyers praying on peoples fears for an extra couple hundred bucks. if you dont trust that person you probably shouldnt be getting married

It's not like people bother with the 'permission' rule. Very few people see a problem posting a picture of their children with the children's friends, but are shocked when a parent asks them to remove it or edit out the friend. Our family has a no social network picture rule - but there are many people who just don't get it.

Best rule for divorced persons is NEVER talk about your ex. If you praise your ex, it'll sound like you're still hung up on him/her. If you bad-mouth your ex it'll sound like you're a bitter vengeful person. Either way, it's a turn-off to anyone you'll be dating in the future. Best rule is never talk about your ex or if you do, say as little as possible. ☺

Good advice, Dan, but not realistic. When it comes to kids, property, etc. both parents get very territorial. As they say, divorce is ugly at best.

It doesn't have to be. I've been married three times, and am on perfectly good terms with all of them, including the father of OUR son. I never got anything out of them when we split up, and they never got anything out of me-- we acted like grown ups, something a lot of people seem to have trouble with.

A pre-nup about social media probably makes sense for people who are constantly in the public eye, but for ordinary people it seems beyond silly.

Face Book sucks, and marriage has been reduced to a farce.

What kills me is, this guy has to pay $25,000 a month, $1000 for make up, 5,000 for shopping each month which is unneccessary and a new card at the end of every leasing cycle? And lakers tickets for everyone in the family, not just her...Crazy....If I was a NBA star, I'll just remain single.....

Everyday, you hear of someone ruining their life, bullying, trashing, exposing...etc...someone on social media....this is simply another form of mental illness......people are just not ready for it....if they were, there wouldn't be so many problems, there would only be the occasional blip.....period, end of story.....social media is just a name applied to "I need to do anything I want, in anyway I feel, to anyone, in every way, 24/7 or my life is not my own...if I can't aire my dirty laundry, disparage someone, or do the social media version of walking over to someone and pooping on them whenever I feel like.....then I am not living in a free country and the Liberal left hase more work to do"

So in essence you are saying that it is only the liberal left that feels the need to air dirty laundry, disparage someone, do anything they want, poop on people, and this 24/7? That's funny-- didn't you just disparage the liberal left when nobody else has brought politics into this at all?
