Firefighter stages fire to propose to police officer girlfriend

Firefighter Stages Fire To Propose To Police Officer Girlfriend

A firefighter in Houston heated things up when he dropped to one knee and asked his police officer girlfriend to marry him.

KPRC reports, "Jesse Gonzalez is a firefighter with the Houston Fire Department. This house fire is fake. It's all been staged as part of a plan to propose to his girlfriend."

That girlfriend was Olga Peck - and we think it's safe to say she didn't see that coming.

WLS-TV reports Gonzalez has been working for the Houston Fire Department for 11 years and that it's standard practice for a police officer such as Peck to respond to a fire for security reasons.

The YouTube video, filmed on a helmet cam and by friends who were in the know, shows Gonzalez exiting the house as the smoky garage door opens and getting down on one knee in front of Peck. You can see the sweet moment when she says yes and hugs her new fiance.

As KROI reports, Gonzalez is also getting a lot of flak from critics who say the stunt was a waste of public resources.

Gonzalez, however says the proposal was done with approval from both the fire and police departments. The happy couple has not yet set a date.

They get paid the same no matter what they are doing and I seriously doubt that you'd want to do what they do, if they gave you ten times as much. Chalk this up to a "tip" for a job well done.

Congratulations to both.

Great creative idea. Now who is footing the bill for all these public servants using city vehicles and so on? Hmmmm?

who paid for this fake fire? Fire trucks. Police, etc. The only tears shed will be mine when I find out that John Q. Public paid for this.

If it'd been a regular citizen they would have been arrested and fined. Example??

For those of you that support this sort of action and say they put their lives on the line everyday for us. You are right. but you also should know this. They elect to do the job. Nobody twist their arms. And they are not poverty stricken. Wages and bennies are not bad. It was a waste of tax payer money if both the fire and police departments supported the set up.

Actually, the pay is nowhere near what it should be. Regardless of that, the vehicles have to go out routinely to ensure proper maintenance. I am sure that they made good use of the run.

And here we have another liberal that wants a free ride on the tax payers. Just curious, what should their pay be? You seem to have the information. You might do some research before you make statements like that.

The cost was minor and executing the plan was good for the moral of both departments. I see no problem with it and congratulate both of the public servants. Hope they have a long and happy marriage.
