Firefighter stages fire to propose to police officer girlfriend

A firefighter in Houston heated things up when he dropped to one knee and asked his police officer girlfriend to marry him.

KPRC reports, "Jesse Gonzalez is a firefighter with the Houston Fire Department. This house fire is fake. It's all been staged as part of a plan to propose to his girlfriend."

That girlfriend was Olga Peck - and we think it's safe to say she didn't see that coming.

WLS-TV reports Gonzalez has been working for the Houston Fire Department for 11 years and that it's standard practice for a police officer such as Peck to respond to a fire for security reasons.

The YouTube video, filmed on a helmet cam and by friends who were in the know, shows Gonzalez exiting the house as the smoky garage door opens and getting down on one knee in front of Peck. You can see the sweet moment when she says yes and hugs her new fiance.

As KROI reports, Gonzalez is also getting a lot of flak from critics who say the stunt was a waste of public resources.

Gonzalez, however says the proposal was done with approval from both the fire and police departments. The happy couple has not yet set a date.
