Colts owner's license suspended for refusing test

Irsay's Driver's License Suspended

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A court has suspended Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay's driver's license for one year following his arrest for driving while intoxicated.

The Indianapolis Star reports (HTTP://INDY.ST/1PULELQ ) that recently released documents in Hamilton County confirm the license suspension effective starting May 27. Police and prosecutors have declined to discuss the case.

Irsay refused a blood test after his March 16 arrest in Carmel, a suburb of Indianapolis. Indiana law requires a one-year license suspension for refusing such a test. Police later obtained a warrant ordering Irsay to submit to a blood draw.

Irsay faces a June 19 initial hearing on two misdemeanor counts of impaired driving. A probable cause affidavit said Irsay was driving under the influence of powerful painkillers.

A message seeking comment was left with a spokeswoman for Irsay.

This is really a personal matter and in no way a matter for the NFL. Can anyone explain to me how this ties to the NFL??

Because it's the owner of an NFL team who, to date, had not yet been hit with any consequences -- legally or by the NFL -- after a DWI incident in which he could have killed someone?

It's probably news because AOL/HuffPost doesn't like him and wants to publicize any dirt they can on him.

Obama is the one who deserves punishment today. He is a liar and a selfish man. He made up a real bullshit story about his concern that the prisoner we were retrieving by swapping five major terrorist prisoners would be killed if we made the swap known. How much sense does that stupid excuse make when they were getting five top ranked terrorists for our one deserter. Personally, I feel that a deserter should have been left there or executed now that we have him. What is really behind this? I think Obama must have been related to one or more of the terrorists.

Screw this DUI story. Everyone knows someone who has made this mistake and it is a misdemeanor. God Bless America.

how does his being charged with driving while intoxicated in any way affect his ability to manage his investment with the Colts. If he is a habidtual drunk, that is one thing, but merely be charged with DWI, how does that impact the Colts or the NFL for that matter. O, please forgive me, we now live in a politically correct country so tough luck ole man, you may have to sell the Colts since society, meaning the NFL of course can't tolerate any distraction from the straight and narrow, How uttterly sad, pathetic and pitiful, to say nothing about the height of hypocrity

I don't see any rationale for the NFL to be involved in this. Let the Indiana justice system deal with it.

The apple didn't fall far from the tree. If they punish the players, then why not the owners ???

If he was DWI that he should be treated as such, nothing more or less,if he pocket full of illegal drugs or drugs not prescribed for him, that changes things

This guy is a billionaire who can well afford a driver, some one he clearly should have hired a long time ago. He's just a rich, drunk cheapskate.

I can not understand why they try to portray people who get DUI as such hard criminals when all you have to do is have one legal alcoholic drink too many to be over the limit. Then there seems to be a push to legalize pot and on top of that in my area my tax dollars are used to buy some sort of spray to help people who OD on heroin. I certainly don’t want heroin users driving on the road with me, so why bother trying undo what they had done to themselves. I would also hope that when someone uses heroin and a police officer has to save them they are the subject to criminal charges as is the person who consumes alcohol.

Do you know how dangerous drunk driving is? Do you know anyone whose family has been victimized by a drunk driver?
