'Jeopardy!' champ ends winning streak

'Jeopardy!' Champ Julia Collins Ends Impressive Win Streak

After winning 20 consecutive "Jeopardy!" games, contestant Julia Collins' impressive streak on the show has come to an end.

MSNBC reports thirty-one-year-old Collins lost during her 21st appearance, which aired Monday night. And the clue that finally stumped her?

"Category is Oscar-Winning Writers, and here is the clue. Winning for 1999, this New England writer is the last person to win an Oscar for adapting his own novel."

Unfortunately, Collins just couldn't get the answer: "Who is John Irving?"

His novel, "The Cider House Rules," was made into a movie of the same title.

But she went out a good sport. Collins tweeted her congratulations to Monday night's winner and thanked her fans for all their support and good wishes during her historic run.

Even though Collins couldn't make it past 20 consecutive wins, she really can't be too disappointed.

CNN reports The Chicago-land native left the show as the winningest female contestant in "Jeopardy!" history and now holds the second place spot for most consecutive wins behind Ken Jennings, who won 74 straight games in 2004.

ABC reports oh, and she also pocketed a whopping $428,000 in winnings, which she told reporters she's using to take a dream trip to Paris and other travel destinations.

So what's Collins' advice for future "Jeopardy!" players? Practice your buzzer technique so you can beat out your competitors and make sure to stay calm.

I really hated seeing her streak end. I may have imagined it, but the guy who beat her seemed a bit smug at the end. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Way to go, Julia....congrats on your windfall! You rock!

She's very smart, but very boring. It's no fun to watch a game where the same person wins day after day after day....nothing personal against Julia. I liked the show better when there was a five day "cap" on the number of wins a person could achieve.

Personally, I was glad to see her go--to me she seemed so smug and would smile when she got a right answer --sure, she's smart -- but she seemed full of herself.

Hated to see her go. She was extremely smart and had an infectious smile. Much more charming than the fellow that was the champion for several days a few weeks ago. Couldn't wait to see him go.

I thought it was awesome to see her make the historical run that she did. It'll be a while before we see something like that again. Most people have no idea what it takes to do something like that, especially since multiple shows are taped each day.

Jeopardy tapes twice a week, 5 shows a day, 2 days a week, 3 weeks a month, 9 months a year, so Julia had to face & defeat 10 people a day at this very difficult game.

To the smart-ass knowitalls posting here, I'd bet everything I have that THEY couldn't even get on the show, let alone win a single game.

And did you find it so boring when Ken was winning? Funny how the same criticisms just don't seem to follow men.

Ken had a personality, she didn't, male versus female wasn't an issue.

I wanted to know more about her personal life. Was she home schooled? Alex said she was shy. Did she have a husband? Was she hidiing an obusive past? I was disappointed to see her lack of taste when it came to dressing. Her ill-fitting outfits looked like they came from the Salvation Army racks. With her winnings, I hope she hires a personal shopper and makes an appointment at a gym to do something about her weight.
