Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Rihanna win big at CFDA Awards

Rihanna may have shocked the crowds with her completely sheer dress last night at the CFDA Fashion Awards last night, June 2, 2014, but she also won big -- the Fashion Icon award, presented by Anna Wintour herself. The Vogue EIC praised Rihanna's ability to tell captivating stories through the boldness and beauty in her clothes. Bad Girl RiRi's boldness was definitely on display last night, so we're sure Anna wasn't left disappointed. Rihanna thanked the crowd in the room -- all of the "designers, the models, and everyone else who has inspired me."

There was inspiring crowd indeed at last night's NYC awards ceremony, held at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, where the fashion week hullaballoo takes place every September and February. Joseph Altuzarra won the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award, presented by Lupita Nyong'o (our favorite new fashion and beauty icon of the year, herself). Meanwhile, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took home the grand prize for accessories design for the work on The Row -- don't even get us started about how much we love them, even if we've got more of an Elizabeth & James budget.

Other winners include Maxwell Osborne & Dao-Yi Chow for Public School by James Mardsen (Jenna Lyons repped Public School on the red capet -- they've got a collab with J.Crew going on right now) for Menswear Designers of the Year. The Swarovski Award for Accessory Design went to Irene Neuwirth, and Shane Gabier & Christopher Peters won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear for their work on Creatures of the Wind. The Swarovski Awards honor emerging talent -- just a few years ago, MK&A won their own.

The CFDA Awards, in its thirteenth year underwritten by Swarovski, is one of our favorite nights in fashion (besides the Met Gala -- duh!). Click through the gallery to see all the looks from the evening.
