South Korea Implements Bigger Parking Spots Just For Women

South Korea has now implemented parking spots designed specifically for women.

NBC reports: "The spots are longer and they're wider and they are marked with bright pink outlines and figures. Believe it or not, the so-called 'she spots' are part of a government initiative to make Seoul more female friendly."

Motoring reports the South Korean government will be spending about $100 million on a "Women-Friendly Seoul" project. Part of that $100 million went toward the parking spots.

The assistant mayor of Women and Family Affairs at the Seoul Metropolitan Government told The Korea Times: "It is like adding a female touch to a universal design and make things more comfortable for women."

But not everyone is so impressed with South Korea's attempts at making society more woman-friendly.

The Huffington Post began a story with the words, "And now for the latest news from the world of staggeringly patronizing things."

And a writer for Metro writes: "Are women worse drivers than men? South Korea certainly seems to think so. ... Not at all patronizing."

However, South Korea isn't the only country with gender-specific parking spots.

ABC reports a town in Germany designated both men-only and women-only parking spots in 2012.

And The Independent says Austria, China, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia and Italy also have women-only parking spots.

If there were male only spaces it would be discrimination.

Far worse than the patronizing here is the fact that some women will embrace it.

Move along....nothing sexist to see here! Just think, if a spot was set up for men only ......how the women would scream about sexism......welcome to double standard town.

Why are they giving special dispensation to women? I thought the modern woman wanted to be equal to men. So, treat them that way.

Why not just have a penis with a circle/slash over it for the painted designator? The emasculation of men isn't just in the US, glad to see that.

You can only emasculate yourself through your own actions, though it would appear you do a fine job.

Somehow I knew HuffingtonPost would have a comment---but hey,at least they used a new word---staggeringly...... instead of shocked, stunned, outraged, firestorm, or the ever popular jaw-dropping. Bravo! Must have a bright new writer on the team.

OH the irony of an Asian country singling out their women drivers as the ones needing more space to navigate a parking space. We have a game on long drives ... when we see a driver going super slow or making a completely inexplicable turn or bizarre lane change we bet each other whether the driver is drunk, old, texting, or Asian. Let's just say, when we pull up alongside that driver ... in certain cities ... it's usually the latter. DWA

i also find it ironic that these Asian countries kill the child or dump it somewhere if the child is born a girl - but hey you know what we'll give the ones who survive a parking space for the future ...weird lol

Where did you ever get such an outright stupid notion such as the statement you just made? You must be from Bumfuc. Ignorance runs rampant.

@Jimmie, it may not happen in South Korea, but it happens in China and other areas, so even though cindyde mistakenly lumped everyone together, it does happen.

Won't be long before this nonsense occurs here once the Feminist hear about this. They don't have a problem with any kind of gender discrimination as long it is against men and it benefits them. Feminists are total hypocrites.

well, considering women are worse drivers then men, I think this would be a good idea.
