Military dad surprises daughter at high school graduation

Military Dad Surprises Daughter at H.S. Graduation

Parents in Grand Forks, North Dakota looked on as their kids walked across the stage to get their high school diplomas, but there was one parent missing: Taylor Crafton's dad.

A member of the Air Force, he had been stationed in Cuba for the past several months. (Chris told KHON2 that he was away "for a total of about 1,782 days to be exact.")

With her dad far from home, Taylor assumed a funny cardboard stand-in would have to take his place. "My mom's friend, she made it for us back in Virginia and sent it to us for prom and for graduation so he could still be here in spirit," Taylor said.

As Taylor walked across the stage, she realized her dad wasn't just there in spirit -- he was actually there! He came out to thunderous applause, and everyone got very emotional. Taylor was so overwhelmed, she fell to her knees when she saw him.

"I'm just so happy he's here," Taylor said. "(It's) better than a car, better than anything, so yeah, that's all I wanted for graduation."

I love every one of these stories and thank the soldiers and families of our military. I just wish that I had the same story when my dad returned home from Vietnam in 1965. We had a whole different reunion but just as Loving.

Lots of jealous people on this board. I will never get sick of these stories. As a Marine (E-7) who served in WWII. These men and women and their families make sacrifices every day protecting all of us. They can have as many of these filmed homecomings as they want.

That's just what I thought. How much better is it to see this than what happened over the weekend? God Bless them all and to hell with the haters.

Seeing Service men come home is always a good thing but when you see them reunited with family especially at something as special as a high school graduation that's priceless. At least that young lady won't go around the rest of her life saying "My dad missed my high school graduation!"

To me, this is a private moment. I don't know why it is necessary for people to punk their family.
