Kim and Kanye's road to the altar

Before they say "I do" this weekend, ET is looking back at the evolution of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's relationship from friends to lovers.

"[Kanye] and I have been best friends for a real long time and just been in each other's lives and known each other for a long time and I can honestly say that's just a really good foundation for a good relationship," the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star told ET in October 2013 after her engagement to the rapper.

A spokeswoman at the Florence mayor's office told the AP that Kim and Kanye will wed at the Belvedere Fort in Florence, Italy. Check out the stunning location below:

But long before they were tabloid fodder, they were friends. The two were first photographed together in 2007, but Kanye had his eye on Kim for a while. He told Kris Jenner that he remembered fawning over her with friends after seeing photos of her with Paris Hilton in 2006.

However, Kanye had to wait patiently before Kim was single. After dating Reggie Bush in 2007, Kim famously married NBA player Kris Humphries in 2011 and split from him just 72 days later.

Kim and Kanye (Kimye, if you will) were first spotted together as a couple in 2012 while shopping in New York. Kim announced that she was pregnant with daughter North West later that same year.

"He's the best daddy," Kris Jenner later told ET in November 2013.

On October 21, 2013, Kim accepted Kanye's wedding proposal in front of her family and close friends at San Francisco's AT&T Park.

"It was so surreal," said Kim. "We ran and told [North] right away."
