Tara the 'hero cat' throws first pitch at baseball game

Tara The 'Hero Cat' Throws First Pitch At Baseball Game

It was a rather unusual sight for spectators at a local baseball game in Bakersfield, California - a cat throwing out the first pitch. Well, kind of.

But that wasn't just any cat.

You may recognize Tara the tabby from this shocking surveillance video that went viral online last week. She managed to scare off a dog that was attacking her 4-year-old human, Jeremy. Jeremy's father, Roger, decided to edit the video and put it up on YouTube for family and friends to see.
And almost immediately, Tara became a national sensation, making major headlines as the famous "hero cat."

And one the perks of that fame? Being invited to throw the first pitch at the Bakersfield Blaze game Tuesday night. Tara's pitch wasn't exactly perfect - her human dad had to give her a little help. But spectators said that didn't matter to them.

And it looks like that pitch is just the first of a few special events Tara has been invited to attend.

The Bakersfield Condors confirmed via Twitter the "Ninja Cat" will drop the first puck for Game 3 of the minor league hockey playoffs Friday night.

And TMZ claims feline magazine Cat Fancy has reached out to Tara's family to see if the tabby would be interested in appearing on the cover.

What's next? Talk shows? A movie deal? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

"you go Tara," finally, cats get recognition for their quick-thinking, selfless personality.

I WONDER IF MAYBE WE HAVE BEEN ELECTING THE WRONG SPECIES INTO THE POSITIONS OF LEADERSHIP. Seems that if a cat can scare away a vicious dog, imagine what they could do in government leadership ?! Maybe it's time for " TABBY FOR PRESIDENT " or have a TABBY political party.

I adore cats, and am proud of Tara. So happy for that poor child--the video of the dog viciously attacking him is truly horrific. Children on the autism scale often love cats, in my experience--it must be something about their gentle approach (to the child, anyway!) and the warm, comforting feeling of the purr. This story is more evidence that keeping cats cooped up in a house all their lives may not be the best thing. AND, claw removal should be outlawed.

I'm surprised that more cat owners haven't noted that behaviors like this aren't that unusual. Years ago, I had somebody try to break into my second BR window late at night.......my cat "claimed" that guest BR as her own.......and she went after whoever was outside the window screen like a small tiger........screaming like a banshee, and shredded the window screen going after the person on the other side, who did a bit of screaming hiimself as he beat the existing land speed record running away. They're more independent (at least on the surface) than dogs, and don't act all submissive, but they're just as loyal and devoted to you from my experience with both, and they can be just as defensive in protecting both their turf and their families. .
And as a postscript, I'd almost rather have to fight off a Rottweiler than an attacking twelve pound housecat. Vets and vet techs will probably back me up on which is scarier to deal with as well.

You're absolutely right! I've seen many of my cats drive off huge stray dogs without blinking an eye. Cats are extremely protective of their territory. And I would definitely rather face a vicious dog than a biting, clawing, writhing ball of claws and fangs! Dogs bite, but cats SHRED.

FYI most of these dogs that attack are NOT put down now. The owner gets a handslap a 20 dollar fine and a free pass to maul again.

That dog could have killed that cat too...And the dog,cat and kid etc could have been killed being allowed to roam unatteneded..

15 minutes? Umm . . animals KNOW they are famous. That's how they look so much better than humans in real life and in photos. :(

People who hate cats are usually controlling , they don't like cats because they can't control them, a dog is easy to control and manipulate.

Next time you meet a person that says they don't like cat, watch and see how controlling they are or if you know the person you may notice this characteristic in that person.
