College Student Vanishes From Chicago Airport

College Student Vanishes From Chicago Airport

A college student up and vanished from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. WICD reports:

"Hye Min Choi, also known as Joseph Choi, last spoke to his father by phone Saturday. ... He told his father he was hungry and was going to get something to eat before his flight home. Hours later at the North Carolina airport ... Choi never came out."

WGHP reports authorities say it's a possibility Choi disappeared voluntarily.

"Police say a college student from Geeensboro may have run away because he got bad grades. ... Choi graduated fourth in his class from Northwest High School last year."

Choi just finished his first year at the University of Illinois, HLN reports. Authorities say there don't appear to be any signs of foul play. But they are stumped as to his whereabouts.

"His sister says his credit card was used in the airport McDonald's and police say he was seen on surveillance video going through security, and that is pretty much all they know."

ABC spoke with Choi's sister, Catherine, who says this is completely out of character for her brother, and described him as the "epitome of a perfect child."

United Airlines says, so far, the 19-year-old has not booked another flight with them.

His sister says his credit card was used in the airport McDonald's and police say he was seen on surveillance video going through security...............there are cameras everywhere at an airport surely they can trace his whereabouts by watching where he went after he passed security, hope he is found alive and safe!!

It a shame that the student is missing. But if you listen to the news reports there is something disturbing. The mother picked up the luggage in North Carolina but no son. I thought the FAA does not allow carriers to send luggage unless the person is actually on the plane. If so this was a huge mistep by United. Are we really safe when flying?

people sound stop with the jokes about this kid that is missing . His family see all this juvenile stuff. I was going to use the other 4 letter word but thought better of it. Let's just have good stuff to say and hope that he is O>K>.

Officials in charge, please get the dogs out and the sooner the better because we don't want to lose the scent. Get busy now as this is gut-wrenching for the family and maybe for that student.

I believe it is fairly easy to go missing. Hopefully they can trace his footsteps within that airport and if he ventured outside.

A time to really lean on the reliability of those surveillance tapes. I hope they take the time to study them carefully. Any missing person is worth that at a minimum.

I am not checked out on airport security.....but it seems to me...with all this Homeland stuff going on....every terminal should have CCTV all over the place...
The place should have Gaming casino style coverage...

I myself would never get on an airplane....security is a joke at the terminals...

The question is not IF...its when...

You know this because of all the midair explosions that have (not) been happening over the past few years.

If he went through the security, then the airlines should be able to confirm he was indeed on the flight? So did he disappear after he landed ?

It's unfortunate and not wanting to be Politilcally IN-Correct - it is a known fact that Orientals are demanding of their children getting the best grades. Maybe Hye Min Choi also known as Joseph was afraid to go home with the bad grades he received. Maybe he will realize his family only wants him to come home safe and he will go to his family. I am sure they will be forgiving and can discuss this matter as a family. Hoping to read a happy story that Joseph Choi has been found and is now safely home again.
