Explosions Cause Evacuation From Va. Movie Theater

Moviegoers and staff evacuated a northern Virginia movie theater early Sunday morning when two plastic bottles exploded inside the building. Police say the bottles were filled with acid and metals.

WRC-TV reports many people inside the movie theater thought the sound of the bottles exploding was gunfire. One witness said people inside thought they were sound effects coming from the new Godzilla movie. WUSA reports people weren't sure what to do when they first heard the explosions.

WUSA adds 2,000 people had to leave the theater after the explosions.

According to WJLA, the good news is nobody was hurt. Police say they're still looking for whomever was involved.

WTTG says:

"While people may think that this is a hoax, this is a very serious crime. It could be construed as an act of terrorism. Here, you're talking about at least a couple felony charges."

AMC released a statement saying anyone who was at the movie theater at the time of the incident can use their ticket stubs from the midnight showing to go back to a local AMC any time free of charge.
